I did this modification. My motor shaft had no keyway so I had to drill and tap for a set screw. Also dropped down 2 inches on belt to a 3L 400 at NAPA. So far my speed and control are much improved. noticed your Everlast welder. I've had one for over 10 years. Had a gas solenoid go out after 8 years and their customer service was great. Thanks for taking the time to produce excellent videos!! Take care

THANK YOU Alexander. On your recommendation, I clicked the link, purchased the servo motor and the 45mm pulley. On my Consew 206RB-1 it is a night and day difference. 1. It is totally silent when your foot is off the pedal. 2. Switching to the smaller pulley took less than 5 min. 3. I can now slow it down to about 1 stitch every 5 seconds if I want....now THAT is control. OR...I can speed it up on a straightaway. One thing I did need to do was to move to a smaller belt size. I used a general utility V-Belt from a hardware store...went from a size 42 to a size 39 (that was my fault...I did not buy the 38 like suggested). Made the tension adjustment underneath and I was home free.

Another inexpensive method of gaining better control of your servo motor is to lengthen the arm that is tied to your treadle. I purchased a short length of 1" x 1" x 1/8" aluminium angle iron from Home Depot and lengthened the motor arm on my machine so the hole centre where the ball joint ties in is now 10" away from the motor control pivot from the 5" it normally is. As a result, it doubles the amount of travel on my actuator treadle uses for a given speed giving me far better and more accurate control. Without changing the sheave I can readily start my machine at a very slow pace. I will however be purchasing the smaller sheave now that I know where to get one to gain even greater control.

I just installed a 45mm pulley on my servo motor and before my slowest speed was 500 rpm and with the smaller pulley it went down to 200rpm. To get a better idea of what that means I set my overall speed at 2500rpm and the slowest speed I could get just barely pressing the pedal before I get 5 stitches per second and 2 stitches per second after the install. Not bad.

Oh classic mechanics D, transform speed into moment of force!)))) In my machine servo integrated into a head, if i need slow down speed i usually using engineers command on control block, it can reduce speed too 100 stitch/min. Whatever great advice! Thanks:)
@hxhdfjifzirstc8942 жыл бұрын
Yes, when you switch to a smaller pulley, you will get more torque from the motor. And if you switch to a larger pulley, you will get less torque. I don't know if more torque is good for sewing, but I'm pretty sure it's not bad.

I already got a speed reducer on my 1541s and works great. Would adding this gear to my servo be of benefit for the extra control? Seems like the speed reducer business would be less if these little pieces added of similar benefits of the reducer without the cost.

The small pulley alone would not slow your machine as much as a speed reducer will.

Do you once in a while go full speed without thread just to make sure the oil is pumping or wicking where it needs to?
@AlexanderDyer4 жыл бұрын
With a wicking system like on this machine that is not helpful since there is no centrifugal pump. Wicking occurs 24/7 regardless of speed. If you have a machine with a pump in a sump that is not a bad idea but the slow speeds are very easy on wear points in terms of pressure and heat and so no need to go over board with it. Those machines are designed to run thousands of rotations per minute so you may ask your self how long would you sew to reach a thousand rotations.
@embeaston4 жыл бұрын
Would this weaken the motor’s ability to see through dense material?
@AlexanderDyer4 жыл бұрын
Actually it increases the torque, similar to down shifting a vehicle. It goes slower but it has more power.
@embeaston4 жыл бұрын
Alexander Dyer cool thanks for the reply. Why are most speed reducers large? Is that for added weight to the system? Thanks for the vids always enjoy learning from you.
@AlexanderDyer4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about that. My guess is that is just the easiest quickest way to manufacture them.▶◀
@randal14704 жыл бұрын
embeaston one of the gears in a speed reducer has to be quite large, and because the engineers also have to account for the increase in torque and use a minimum shaft size, there is a practical limit to how small and compact the reducing gears can be. This is a case where the old school pully swap to a smaller diameter is actually a more cost effective, and efficient, way to reduce the speed on a machine. And gain some grunt too. The gear reduction set though can get you into lower gear ranges if it’s really needed. Sorry to butt in but I did gears alot in another life 😄

thats a good alternative to the cost of a reducer. 200 bucks or 20 bucks right?
@AlexanderDyer4 жыл бұрын
It is a good alternative yes and for me it is enough but a speed reducer will reduce the speed even more and can be combined with the smaller pulley. The pulley I have linked to is less than $10 so worth a try right?

I've got the Family FESM 550C servo motor (with a 50mm pulley on it) and it's got the speed dial like yours. My speed is all or nothing at each speed. I.e., at 690 it only does 690, at 1500 it only does 1500, etc. I can't "feather" the pedal to stitch slowly and gas it to hit the max at that setting. I hope that makes sense. After watching this, is it safe to say it's not supposed to function that way? Any idea what I need to do to get that functionality?

The pulley works on any servo motor, for example, a servo motor for a juki 1541? And the pulley requires a new belt? THanks!

It works on most but I don't know about yours. There is an adjustment for belt tightness at the motor. perhaps an adjustment will allow you to use your old belt otherwise the auto parts store will have a shorter belt. Take your old one to compare.

how would a smaller pulley work with a needle positioner? I'm confused by the functionality of a needle position does it regulate the speed of the machine based on the actual revolutions to the speed you set or does it just simply make sure the needle is left up or down when you remove your foot? I have a consew 3001 and I wanted to slow it more with a smaller pulley
@AlexanderDyer4 жыл бұрын
It will work. The positioner operates by counting rotations at the handwheel so when you go to a smaller pulley the counting at the handwheel will simply occur at the slower rate.

@AlexanderDyer Жыл бұрын
That is not true. If you have rode a bike with multiple speeds you know that when you go to slower gears it gets easier to pedal. If you then think from the perspective of the motor, the slower pulley makes it easier for the motor and so in effect you increase it's effective strength or torque at the needle. Of course not to the degree you can attain from a speed reducer but at a significantly lower cost and level of complexity to install. On these flatbed machines I have never felt like I did not have enough torque even before installing a smaller pulley.
