These ratios are the favorite thing about Lego, period. It’s actually kind of beautiful.

@@TheAuleBlocksmith I have good experience with GoBricks, but the pedant living in me needs to see 'lego' on full studs so I limit my alternatives to tiles, plates and bricks with hollow studs and technic. Color matching is remarkably good, although you might actually welcome color variation for old castles. PS: I really appreciate this kind of detailed analysis video's, you easily earned a like & subscribe for this one alone.

this is why I gave up on bricks, and switched to Technic a while back. Unfortunately, all my Lego is still at my parent's house, so the cheapest way to get new Lego is the pick-a-brick wall at my local Lego store... which never has any Technic parts
@TheAuleBlocksmithАй бұрын
You mean you don't like the system? There are plenty cheap used technic pieces on ebay and elsewhere, if you want to get back to building and don't mind alternative brands, Cada got some relatively low price high quality tehnic stuff ^^

@@TheAuleBlocksmith I just hate being off by half of a third of a brick, and being unable to continue further without starting over from scratch because I used a 1x1 brick with stud on side, instead of a headlight piece. As for CaDa, I got a set and they really aren't the same quality as Lego. being "99%" there just means that every hundred pieces, your pin won't hold and the set falls apart. I live in France. People here think that they can sell their 20 year old stash of parts for the same price as if it were new. The used market in general is abysmal, here
@TheAuleBlocksmithАй бұрын
@@Klaevin Damn, that sucks May I ask you when you got that CaDa set? I havent built anything from them so far, but I havent heard anything bad about their quality so far.

@@TheAuleBlocksmith I got it around last Christmas. It's the i. Bot code robot (idk, I'm looking at their website) I got it at my local supermarket and I really have good things to say about it : it's way cheaper, the unique parts are really cool and I love how varied the parts are. But it feels like they use a different plastic, some of the parts alignments aren't perfect and as I said, the pins will randomly simply not hold. I work in product design and learnt about manufacturing during my studies and I'm really impressed with the quality and consistency of the pieces. It takes a LOT of investment to get to that point. I just won't be mixing them with Lego to make mocs. But I could definitely see myself buying from them again, if there's a set that catches my eye

Great round up of the basics and more. I subbed immediately. Regarding the 1 + 1/4 gaps, you can fill those up with a hinge plate + tiles, but then you have the hinge itself protruding from the back.
@TheAuleBlocksmithАй бұрын
@@Vandueren5 Thanks! And you got a good point there, you can use the 2x2 hinge top plates and hide the hingy part, if the walls have sufficient thickness.
