you can use a piece of sheet metal or a cookie sheet

I do all my soldering in an old 9 x 13" baking pan. Everything (charcoal block or fire brick, soldering picks & tweezers, flux cup,etc) fits inside it beautifully. I work with it on my desk/jewelry table & it works fine. I turn the whole pan to reach all the way around whatever I'm soldering so no need for a turntable! I then also store the bricks & some tools in the pan. I'm not a soldering pro, actually relatively new to it, but this set up has worked great for me! Hope it helps.

So does it matter if you get 925 sterling silver ear ring posts, or stainless steel ear ring post? Does one solder better than another? Should you get a "hard" solder or "soft" silver solder? Is "easy' solder wire like in the video "hard" or "soft"? Also, what is the liquid in the bowl? If it is a pickle solution, what is it? Sorry- I'm a beginner--- Thanks

We are working with sterling silver in this video. Soldering stainless is not something we have done. I would take a look online to find tutorials for working with stainless.

depends on the material of the jewels. I would do some research on your jewels and see if they are heat resistant. Gemstones (natural would ok).

If you tumbled the earrings would it work harden the post or do you still need to use the pliers and twist? Great video, as always.

Tumbling would for sure harden them. I would actually do both for extra strength.

How do you put divots on ear posts... so the ear nut doesn't fall off? I can't find any videos on it...

IT depends on how wide you want the divots to be. You should test this first on another wire to make sure it works and does what you want it to. You can grab the wire lightly with cutters and turn the wire while holding with the cutters.

In this project we used solder wire with flux. If you use paste it has the flux already in it.
