You were correct the first time: the "l" is silent, just like the "t" in "often". Don't believe me - look it up in Webster's dictionary!

If I say she's beautiful, and don't make a comment about her soldering ability or her intellect, is The Knight of White going to drop the Hammer of INDIGNATION on me?

Could you take a simple circuit board for an amplifier for a guitar and explain from power cable to speaker cables what happens to electricity? What the caps, transistors, resistors and transformers do to the electricity until finally the speaker roars? Thank you.

People pronounce it "sah-der" because it was originally pronounced "sahl-der" in American English. Because it's more comfortable to say "sah-der" than "sahl-der" in English, the proper American pronunciation was shortened. This is because the word was originally a French loanword to begin with, and French is spoken differently. If the "L" were to be kept in the American pronunciation, you'd see the "S" start to be pronounced as a "Z" because it fits English speech better than "Sahl-der". In Germanic languages, like English, the "aw" or french "ou" sound naturally becomes like a German "au" or English "ou" in "ouch" or "out". That's why Southerners say "dog" like "dau-g", and why Icelandic "á" is now pronounced like "au" instead of the original "aw" like in "dog". Not to be confused with "dah-g". I'm from New Jersey, so we say "då-g". There's no better way to show the pronunciation unless you look up the "å" letter from Norwegian. I and other new Jersey and believe "dåg" is the true pronunciation of "dog". People in places like California pronounce it like the "o" in "odd" or an "a" in German. So don't be cringey and please say "sah-der" as all Americans do. And, if you speak in an accent, it's likely a correct way of interpreting the words you speak. If you speak in a way that you feel is personally right while no one else does, you're likely speaking incorrectly.

By this reasoning, Americans would pronounce "bolder" (and "boulder") as "bodder, "colder" as "codder", "folder" as "fodder", "holder" as "hodder", "older" as "odder", and "sold" as "zodd" or something. "So don't be cringey and please say "sah-der" as all Americans do. "

Saader is the American pronunciation. I went to your video here because I cannot stand it being pronounced like that over and over again.
