Great lesson. The way I see it, Chuck Berry is not only "The Father of Rock and Roll," but The King, too. He wrote the songs, created the characters, and was the genre's first guitar hero . . . he did it all. I don't own the book, but I've checked it out of my local library and read it cover-to-cover a couple of times. I've also dug the documentary he did with Keith Richards a few times, too. Both Hogan and Berry were influenced (as were so many) by Charlie Christian. Thanks, Damian!

I bought my first Chuck Berry LP in 1964 when I was 12. The LP was "ST. Louis To Liverpool" and it had a couple tracks on it that were a little uncharacteristic of him. The song "You Two" is somewhat like rhythm changes and his chord work is very cool and on "Night Beat" he uses a killer jazzy neck pickup tone, it's a jazzy sounding blues. Thanks for all you do!

Damian, this was as good as it gets. I've listened to countless jaw-dropping players over the years but Chuck Berry still amazes me. Berry's various 10-12 song greatest hits collections from Chess have always been pure gold to my ears. Yeah, I'd love to have one of those new Gibson Chuck Berry Blonde 350's... Unfortunately, I can think of about 10,000 reasons I'll never have one. 💸💸💸💸💸🥺💸💸💸💸💸 Great video, as always! You really captured Chuck Berry's vibe!

I'm looking forward to hearing back from you and plug up to something, so you can hear my bass riffs. I believe I was the first bassist to pop and slap to hard core music. Korn was out yet. We opened up the 3 bands and toured behind them. I'll fill you in on more details. If you're interested. Jeremy loved The Misfits. I had a few chances to go play with different bands. I was to shy to sing at that time, but if we stayed together and Jeremy didn't OD. I would have started singing. Our manager wouldn't let us record until after we toured for two more big or bigger bands. As you can see we had a pretty big following. Thanks and get back to me.

Hi Damian , I have this question about the tabs and you're playing at the beginning of the video. Do you play an extra note that isn't in the tabs?, around 4:25. In the tabs you slide to the 5th fret B string and play it twice in totall, but it seems you first play the 5th fret B string regular, then slide it up to the 5th fret, play it another time regular.( at the beginning of the video that is without the tabs)( the staccato part I mean, with the triplets)) I even slowed your video down to 25 percent of the normal speed. I can play it in time with your tabs, but not in sync at the start of the video. Can't put my finger on it, difficult to describe.Especilly when your first language is not English. But great video as usual

Saw him a few times in the early seventies.Only played with pick up bands, and always kicked someone off stage because they tried to play the songs as recorded and he had drifted pretty far from the originals.Saw a Qucksilver roadie finish drumming after one of those events. I have seen his late 50s and early sixties films and he was brilliant. By the time I saw him, he was bullshitting his way through the songs, quick buck and gone. His lead work had gotten shamefully sloppy and then came Keith..... Hail!
