My wife walks bye while I'm watching this episode. "Are you watching the BBC"? "No honey. I'm watching Damien Bacci". "Your on line guitar teacher"?! "Yup! He's also our motivational speaker and de-facto life coach"! "Mmm. Good to know". Thanks Damien for the positive words and the video. It helps bring a nice sense of normalcy back into our lives. Be well my friend and stay safe. We in the Rockabilly community need you!!

Like my most favorite song when I was a young child. Took up guitar @ 12 and begged dad to show me how to play it. He did. Bought my first Strat brand new from Ray Henning's Heart of Texas in Austin when I turned 15 w/$ from summer job. I remember pluggin in to an old amp at home and playing this riff! Well done. Thanks for the lesson and the memory. Stay safe.

Nice lesson, and nice send off at the end. Thanks. On one night in the Gibson factory in Memphis in 2006, I met Scotty Moore, DJ Fontana, and James Burton. Got their autographs on a guitar and a drum skin. James was curious about my guitar. He liked the grey color. Man, that was a good night.

Wow, thank you for sharing that story. What an amazing night that must have been. Roughly 25 years ago I had the pleasure to play a show with Jerry Lee Lewis and James Burton was playing guitar for him. I had a chance to hang out with James for a bit backstage. Scotty Moore once mentioned that at times playing a solo or riff was a struggle for back in the day there was no such thing as medium or light gauge string configuration. And using "flatwounds only" was the norm. Which explains why his experimental "adlib" studio takes were different. Visionary Ernie Ball knew this and set out to make it easier for us guitar players because we want to create without fighting the music.

Good instruction. I think Scotty was doing what so many early rock-a-billy guys did in that time period re: that near unison 9th/12 fret strike. Using regular gauge strings this was the best they could do to get a blues like bend up into the target note. It's close but not quite. So they had to bend one half step up rather than a whole step which is typical today with slinky strings. Who else did this? Carl Perkins and his protégé, George Harrison on the early Beatles records. They both could make these half-step off notes quite discordant by not bending it much and striking both notes hard and simultaneously.

One thing I find funny is, in your early videos, you look and sound dangerous, like you just got of prison for shooting your parole officer. Not the type of guy you wanna owe money to. Now?
