It's even worse when you get a puzzle that's rated way above your usual level but the solution looks obvious Leaves you to think "they WANT me to fall for that, what am I missing?"

@YOU-GOT-MATED What's your blitz rating? My puzzles on CDC is ~2000 and on Lichess is ~2450; both steadily increasing. But somehow my actual game ratings are unusually low ~1000. You guys could probably explain the apparent disparity. Also, tips to bump my numbers up are welcome! :) Cheers!

@@jamesabhilash8006 the main reason I can think as to why that is (I think most chess players have higher puzzle rating than their elo), would be down to lack of fundamental understanding of the game. What I mean by this is that youre good at finding tactics if they're there (or maybe you aren't implementing your puzzle solving skills into game), but your ability in understanding the game itself must be lacking. You should learn openings and endgames. Usually puzzles are middlegame puzzles, basic promotions and checkmates. So I'd recommend learning openings and practicing different endgames, and going through the videos and exercises which is supplied on CDC. Also, you can easily get to 1600 by knowing opening traps, and simply playing solid and letting your opponent blunder. There's blunders in almost every game under 1600 I'd say, and honestly if you just be careful of your moves and let them throw the game away, you'll gain elo so quickly.

@@maxhenderson1890 Thanks a lot Max!! Incidentally I've been working on just that for the last couple of months. I also taught myself a new way to approach puzzles; under time pressure. I realised that I'm able to iterate better in real games after training this way. Endgames are also now a part of my learning routine. I don't see them very often in real games though. But it does help to play more 'solidly'. Your plans tend to be more long-term once you understand the endgame better. Coming to openings, I'm still not sure how to reliably improve; study master games, study opening books. What would you recommend here Max? Finally, I think the best most obvious way to improve is to play more long games. And this is another thing I've been trying to do lately. I'll come back to report here when I see steady improvement! :) Cheers!!

Hello everybody. First of all, I really love your channel Levy, watching it almost every day :). Great content! However, I'm wondering how much the puzzle elo score actually tells about ones ability to play the game. In my case, I started playing in January this year and play not good at all, i.e. 900 in 5 minute games. My puzzle rating however is around 1700. So I thought the puzzle elo score is just a rather random number and that IMs would easily score above 3k. Can you guys put me into perspective? All the best wishes from Germany :)

Hello. Your videos are instructive. My highest rating on Chess.com Tactics is 2199 which wasn't that difficult to achieve (once I have studied tactics with a coach for a while and done some puzzles from books). What I would like to know is how can I achieve a rating of 18904 which is someone's rating on the leaderboad of chess.com as of today. Any tips?
