I saw Godflesh in Belfast last weekend. It was insanely heavy. You did a great job.

I think you EQed the bass wrong, but everything else is spot on.

Kinda but you really need to lose all your patterns on the HR16 and reprogram them before every show. Adds realism and tension. Fuck that thing was evil, the sequencer version was bad too.. to the point someone started selling after market patches for it.

No bad man. Vocals could do with some kind of pitch shifting / eventide effect to make it more accurate, but LOVE the bass and guitar tones and drum processing .

Nice one! The bass tone is amazing, by the way! I have just, this week, bought an HR-16 & MMT-8 and can't wait to piss about with them. Also, don't fret about the vocals, you don't have a Brummie accent so it would be hard to replicate. 🤓

8:11 since you are using Reaper, you can do the "pseudo stereo" effect by plugging in the "pseudo stereo MDA" plugin, which does it either by the hass effect or combing the phase (I think)

You mean for the drum samples? I wasn't able to get wav files, only Live and Kontact, so they won't work with Reaper. The wavs must have been available in the past

Sounds almost like it! As for the guitars, I was wondering if they double tracked, I don't think so either. The "copy/paste and move 1 slightly forward" trick we always get told NOT to do works in this instance!
@NickLeonard
@NickLeonard Жыл бұрын
Typically, I would, but since they said they recorded with just a stereo delay, they aren't in this track. Good too, since doubling up my weird and mostly improvised parts would've been a challenge!

It's just the snare and the "glass bell" sample from the HR-16 at the same time. sounds kinda like hitting a beer bottle with a drum stick

Funny how I discovered and downloaded Sitala just a couple of days before this video came out. I already owned those HR16 samples, but I didn't know how to use them. Anyway, I've always tried to recreate that Streetclenear vibe, but you came closer to it.

@@NickLeonard Best thing about a drum machine is that you don't have to rely on an idiot drummer who never learned to count to 4. People who talk about "not gelling with a band" are usually garbage rhythmically.
@NickLeonard
@NickLeonard 2 жыл бұрын
@@kennethfrazee2540 as a drummer myself, I'm offended! Sometimes I count all the way to 6 or 7 😂 It is especially sad when drummers refuse to learn to play to a metronome, every musicians needs to have the skill. Recording tools are cheaper and easier than ever, but you still have to be tight to a click, or you're gonna have a bad time!

Trying to sound like another band, no matter how much you like them, is a mistake. Was Broadrick trying to sound like anyone other than himself when writing/recording Streetcleaner? The only times imitation works is when the imitator is not good enough to copy and unintentionally creates something unique.
@NickLeonard

I agree with you from a creative perspective, but the point of this video is analyzing the interesting production and compositional techniques they used.

Not true at all, take a look at Nine inch Nails, that initial imitation evolved and changed over time to be the biggest industrial act ever. When creating something nothing should be barred and everything will eventually fall into place to create something unique
