There was a remarkable period when Marvin used a DeArmand pedal with the up&down swell effects but it also pivoted side to side for tone effects. I'm reluctant to wade through my volumous HM&Shads playlists for examples, but what I remember is that it was during the time when he was playing his customized black stratocaster for a period in the late 70's.

This pedal you speak of sounds interesting. Also, I cannot imagine Hank with a black stratocaster! :-) I will have a look on the Internet for info about this. Thanks for your message! Have a great day!

Hi Ken, my wallet is going to be little lighter now that a swell pedal is on my buying radar to get that Hank Marvin sound :) thank you for all that you do, God Bless!
@kenmercermusic Жыл бұрын
You can achieve this with other less expensive pedals too if you wish, doesn't have to be a Morley. The nice thing about this one is that it has a on/off switch and a pot to set the minimum volume level. Thank you for your kind words, all the best, Ken :-)

Nice to hear from you Ken ,always check your channel , I've learned a lot from your tutorials uploads since started playing in 2016 from truss rod adjustment and intonation setting , etc thank you. The pedal sounded great Ken , seemed very sensitive which is a positive I expect, I have a pedal on my Zoom G3X and Korg AX3000G , its not easy takes a lot of practise I expect. Have to try Cavatina again with the Zoom pedal it seems the best, Enjoy your weekend , Take care Dave.👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎸

Hi Dave, thanks for returning to check out my channel it's very much appreciated! Yes, the pedal in the beginning takes some getting used to, but now I use it without even thinking about it. I couldn't play without it now to be honest, the sound is very pleasing to my ears. Take care, and thanks again for supporting my work. All the best, Ken 🙂

Hi, Ken. it sounded really good with and without a volume pedal. I believe Hank's first volume pedal was DeArmond 610 and for Cavatina he used a Morley VBO, a chrome first series one. Others followed... Wish I had one of those pedals. 🙂Thank you for the great demo, Ken.

Ken I love all your videos especially those concerning Hank's sound, all the tips, tricks, patches and more ............ however I have come to the conclusion, that while we may get close, the fundamental problem is that we don't have Hank's fingers lol ....... keep uploading my friend and thank you
@kenmercermusic Жыл бұрын
Yes, very true Chris! Hank has his own unique touch on the guitar with his fingers that we will never have. We can always wish though. :D Thanks for your nice comment buddy, have a great day! All the best, Ken :-)

Hi, Ken....It is always a great pleasure to see you...I hope you are doing well in your projects...I often visit your channel looking for the instrumentals I want to play ...Your tutorial videos are amazing...The sound before the pedal was beautiful too...I have been struggling for the Shadows sound for a very long time and I am still no where near to it :))...Stay well and keep showing your presence on youtube....My prayers and good wishes for you....Your big fan ....Regards Khalique...{:-)

Hello Khalique, so nice to see you again on here and to read your kind comment, thank you so much! Hank's sound seems so difficult to replicate but I like to think we are getting closer with time and experience. I'm sure we will never get that exact sound without the vintage Vox amp, echos, his guitar, and of course as another KZbinr rightly pointed out below...Hank's fingers! Take care my friend, I wish you the very best! Ken :-)

Hi Ken. Yeah, you can get that effect with any volume pedal, it doesn't have to be an expensive Morley. That said, to really get the Hank Marvin sound you need his exquisite feel and touch. Unfortunately, I haven't found a pedal for that yet. LOLOL You captured his tone really closely there though. The strat and reverb were perfect. I'm curious which reverb are you using? (I hope you don't tell me it's a Strymon Blue Sky, because I'm in love with that, but can see spending as much as my NUX Mg30 costs jst for one effect) Always great to see you pop up in my feed brother. Great to see you on guitar again too. Take care.

Hi Jstn, it's true that you can use any swell pedal, you're right! I really like this one because it has an on/off switch and pot to regulate the minimum volume level. I used to play on a pedal that didn't have this function and could not get the same control as I do now. Still looking for that one magic Hank Marvin pedal too but didn't find it yet. ;) The reverb is a plugin called 'OldSkool Reverb', the Blue Sky is amazing and I also considered purchasing it, but I'm not ready to give up a kidney just yet to pay for it. :D Always good to be in touch with you Jstn, stay well and keep rockin'! Ken :-)
