Thank you this was helpful. I am getting quotes for sound proofing because I get a lot of low frequency bass noise from the street so now I know what I need to ask for.

Thank you, you are giving me hope. I've really depressed by the noise.

I have a mobile home. I can add 5/8” DW on walls, but ceilings will not support more than a lightweight 1/2” drywall. Is there a light weight sound proofing? Would resilient channel be worth while with less mass? I am trying to block traffic noise.

What I find is that a lot of these STC ratings for soundproofing products are misleading unless you read the fine print that says the STC is not for the product itself but from the product combined with a sophisticated multi-layer build.

Also wanted to suggest a video on auditory masking. I find that these white/brown noise machines just don't do it. But if I sit in my car and idle it or drive really slow it does a really good job at masking outside constuction and plane noise unless the plane is flying directly over me, but 99% of the noise and vibration is masked doing this. But I'd like to be able to reproduce this inside my house.

Is there something I can buy for the washing machine? It's the vibration that I hate and since my bedroom is adjacent to the laundry room I can feel it vibrate from the floor.

You can get rubber or rubber-and-brass pads or extenders as a quick fix.

Sounds like a good plan for going over my drywall. But let’s talk windows. We have double pane but a lot of noise still penetrates. We also have insulated curtains. Is adding a storm window the answer? And if so, that sounds like an expensive fix depending on how much noise is eliminated. We live on a very busy street. Thanks.

I would suggest secondary glazing with acoustical glass, it’s costly, but well worth it … by costly I mean 1-2k per window

Am I wasting my time attempting to soundproof my basement ceiling if there are holes in it for LED lights?

Would extra drywall help block the noise of the neighbors pool table that is 20 feet from my bedroom and underneath the covered patio so the sound has nowhere to go but out towards my house? And this is someone who plays two or three times a day for an hour or two. It’s awful to listen to and worse when trying to enjoy my own yard. Thanks!

Yes it would definitely help with that! It might not completely illuminate the banging noise of the balls hitting but it should reduce it enough to make it less disruptive to you.

Would this work for light impact noise ?
