I like the way you think!
@dienekes4364Күн бұрын
When putting foam around a door frame, on the side where there are hinges, you should put the foam on the frame, not on the door stop. That way the edge of the door isn't going to scrap it off.

I tried installing these panels using 4 heavy duty command strips on each panels and the adhesive didn’t hold up well. They would fall down after a 20-30minutes.

The “Velcro” type command strips? I’m surprised they didn’t hold…
@anthonyskrillex6981Күн бұрын
@ yes they are the velcro ones 😟 it was the adhesive to the wall failing. I cleaned the surface but not sure what else I could’ve done. I’ll just screw them to the wall

weird... i just got plumbing done and they said it had to be a minimum of 100 psi for the house. local ordinance maybe? Florida. any thoughts on that?
@soundproofguideКүн бұрын
Florida may recommend water pressure up to 100 psi due to unique factors like the need to supply water to multi-story buildings, large properties, and extensive irrigation systems. Higher pressure ensures water reaches upper floors and distant areas without losing flow. Many irrigation systems in Florida also operate more efficiently at higher psi, which is important given the state’s landscaping needs. Additionally, municipalities often distribute water at higher pressures to maintain consistent supply across different zones, even during peak demand. However, while the main supply might be at 100 psi, homes typically use pressure-reducing valves (PRVs) to regulate the pressure down to a safer 40-60 psi for household plumbing, preventing damage to pipes and fixtures.

I just did what I learned in aviation maintenance. If you take sealant and just lay a thick bead on the door frame where the door normally touches and then take petroleum jelly and rub it onto the door wherever the door is going to touch, the petroleum jelly will prevent the caulking from curing to the door, but it will make a perfect mold. It works even better if you’re able to not fully close the door, maybe back it off an eighth of an inch and then let the sealant cure. You basically have a watertight door at that point not just soundproof. Then add a sheet of 3 inch roofing insulation board on the inside and you’re good to go.

Generators get hot, and plywood is flammable. A nonflammable barrier like Hardibacker or fiberglass wall insulation might be a better choice.

CLD mat only reduces resonance and lowers resonant frequency, it doesn't technically directly block or attenuate the sound. For that, you want closed cell foam as a decoupling layer, followed by mass loaded vinyl or some kind of fiberglass product or process in order to block and disperse the road and wind noise. Look on car audiophile forms like DIYmobile-audio for more info.

I found one of the worst sources of noise. In an appartment building I have radiators under the windows for water heating. The pump is about 100 m/300 ft away, and the company checked it and it's OK. BUT in the basement some heating pipes started to make a lot of noise since 4-5 weeks. Pipes in the appartment have some vibration I can feel if I touch them. Local plumbers are stupid so solved nothing. So with a lot of soundproofing - walls, ceiling, windows - radiators would be a source of noise. I don't see how to de-couple them. Isolation will not work - because will stop the heat transfer. Plus the hot air is creating a "screen" to protect against some cooler air movement from windows. Like there is no way out.

Take them to court. The cameras alone are illegal because they are pointing beyond their property boundaries. I like the mirror idea for the lights. As for the loud music, collect evidence of the disturbances and that the noise is coming from their house, and sue them.

a great tip i read on some 3m tape instructions is to wipe with isopropal alcohol before applying it. positive i've never had tape/adhesive come lose again, negative i've damaged the surface of everything i've used tape/adhesive on as the surface wants to give before the tape ^^" should be fine on painted wood but beware of ikea level stuff :P just ordered a 1L bottle from amazon and this will probably last me a lifetime :P

I loved the video. i am building a rental unit in my walk-out lower level. It will have a living room, bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom. The area is about 858-900SF. The ceilings are 10Ft minus drywall etc. I do not want to hear the TV from my first floor level. I have a contractor that has installed double installation, RC2 channels. and (1) 5/8' drywall. He has not totally closed up but I am nervous as to whether or not its going to work. I am thinking that I need to add the mascelina vinly. I am a very visual learner; and I need to see the process step by step to better understand But most important, I need a contractor that may have the expertise to solve my concerns. Or at a minimum offer consultation at a fee. I live in the Maryland, Howard County area. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I have a TV room with subs. It's down to the studs and has 3 air ducts running through the ceiling (between floor joists; they are low profile) . The master bedroom is above the TV room. What is the best way to reduce the noise coming up the floor and through the air ducts? I thought about acoustic foam, but those are all 12x12 and floor joists at 16" on center, leaving gaps on both sides.

It would be soooo nice if you were able to make this video much more concise... having to listen to you same the very same thing 3 or 4x before getting to the point is a bit of a drag when your detector is beeping at you. I only made it to the 5min. mark and I'm sure this could've been done in less than 30secs. (including your stories... if you said them just once). sigh :(
