Perfect tutorial. Works for me. To avoid soil and seeds sticking to your shoes or wellies find flat soled shoes and tie carrier bags around them. Also keeps the shoes clean and avoids ruts.

In 2023, countless videos I watched, this is the simplest and easiest to follow… didn’t want to rent a tiller and a simple “ fork” tool to dig into the dirt is by far better to do…. Now finding the right grass seed is hard to find

For germination, frequent light waterings are good, periodic soakings are not. The aim is to keep the environment slightly humid at all times

Hi, i leave in Toronto. We bought our house last August. The backyard was full og weeds. So we used weed killer to get rid of those. Now that snow is over we see little patches of green but a big section has yellow grass and also the dead weeds. How I prep the backyard for grass for summer.do I need to dig the whole entire backyard? Please advise.

yes. ive done this twice using wilko seed and been successful. the main thing seems to be a good daily water if but only if there has been no rain. watch the titchmarsh video on it its as simple as he makes it sound.

best is fall. why? higher moister level in the air, more rain fall + you got some 3 months before winter and then entire spring for the grass to grow strong before summer. also weed doesn't like cold, so you dont have to worry about weed popping up on your naked areas.

Hi, I have recently pulled all the weeds/plants/roots/large rocks up from my garden (approx 100m²). There is a scattering of small branches and small rocks - do these ALL need to be cleared away for grass to grow? Or can I get away with the soil having some bits of stone etc. still in there? Thanks!

I have just seeded a area of lawn where i had a shed, The problem is on a night a cat comes and does its mess and piles a mound of soil on it, Would it be ok to cover the area on a night with a pvc sheet.
@StephenWorley5 жыл бұрын
Use an electric fence at a low level around the area - a low output such as 0.2 Joules. Once they get a bite from it they'll never return to your garden.

I have a much better way than this. I put my seed in a container where I will sprout it prior to sowing it in the soil. I put miracle grow in water, then soak the seed in it for 24-48 hours then rinse it and drain the water. Rinse and drain it daily for at least 7 days. As soon as it shows a white bump, I then soak it again in water mixed with miracle grow for another 24 hours and the next day I will rinse and drain it then mix the sprouted seeds in a compost or coco peat in a relatively good ratio. Spread it on the ground by hand and water the ground regularly, it’s best to do it during the autumn or early spring so it’ll get watered effortlessly, it’s a 110% success in growing rate.

@gardenhealth7 жыл бұрын
Hi Safc, ideally you should have trodden on it, but it should be absolutely fine, especially as we have such good growing conditions at the moment (ie not cold and fairly wet). If you want to discuss in more detail, give our customer services team a call on 01480 443789.

@timesaregettingbadpatrickd62075 жыл бұрын
Reason being that areas that are not level or have a sinking shows up so just add more soil to those areas and try to get everything level and flat
@Lithium0235 жыл бұрын
Preaty sure it's because it plants the seed in the ground and the soil is what gives the seeds the nutrients they need to grow. Plus that way your seed won't get blown away or washed away as easily if there is a hard rain.
@TheEIREGUNNER6 жыл бұрын
this method is wrong

@86faST136 жыл бұрын
TheEIREGUNNER How is it wrong if the grass grows? Many methods are used to grow grass and if your grass grows it's not "wrong"....you can just toss seed right on the dirt and let it germinate naturally if you want . There's no right or wrong just better or worse.
@turfconsultantindia66665 жыл бұрын
It depends upon different sowing methods
@zarrow507 жыл бұрын
about how long to germinate?
@gardenhealth7 жыл бұрын
Hi Clive, it depends what the temperatures are like where you are. Optimum soil temperatures are about 15C (and not dipping below 6/7C at night). If this happens, it will germinate in about 2 weeks. If it's still chilly where you are, could take longer.
