This reminds me of when I was a student at Howard University in the '80s and I had a class in iSiZulu. The languages a quite similar. I used to hang with a lot of SA cats back then. I miss amacherry.

Thank you so much for this introduction to isiXhosa! I went to South African recently and I love the language. The clicks are really challenging. Could there be a session just on the clicks? Anyway, great job with this! I can't wait to hear more.

This is an awesome vid for those of us who are complete & total Afro-philes. I studied KiSwahili in college & got pretty descent at it. But I've long forgotten most of it now since I didn't get the chance to frequently practice it here in New York City. But I recognize some similarities in both languages. I also love the painting in the background & the isiXhosa name for America. Much thanks for sharing this. Both thumbs all the way up!!!

Yes, there are a lot of similarities with Kiswahili, Helloxons Fan. Where did you learn your Kiswahili? I am from Tanzania. I am trying to learn isiXhosa in preparation for an internship in Capetown early next year.

Can anyone explain why it's sometimes characterised as 'isixhosa' and sometimes just 'xhosa' and why the numbers are sometimes just on their own 'mbini' and sometimes have prefixes' such as 'zimbini'? Is it just differences in dialect?
