I am an Indian masters student in linköping, Sweden. I have tried to learn a bit of Swedish and I tried to speak in hemköp at times but I think the problem lies in our accent since we come from Asia. The problem is much more severe with east Asian students from China,Taiwan.

Most strangers would just respond in English, or just not talk to you at all. It's basically an unwritten rule not to talk to strangers on like bus stops and such because it's just too awkward.

My mom is Japanese, my dad is Russian and we lived in Oslo for 10 years, so I grew up speaking Norwegian, Russian, Japanese and English. For some reason, I still have trouble reading in Swedish but I can kind of understand what one is saying in Swedish even though the spelling is completely off. Instead of hej we say hei I love you is jeg elsker deg (ya-eye el-skairh dye) Instead of ok we said og And instead of tack we say takk with a bit more emphasis on the k sound Of course, Icelandic, Danish and Finnish I still can’t, for the life of me, understand.

It might be helpful for us to learn the basics first, such as pronunciation and the Swedish alphabet. I DO like how you repeat the phrases slowly, carefully speaking the individual words - that is very helpful. :) Swedish is very difficult for native English speakers to learn (as I'm sure English is for Swedes) because of the pronunciations. By the way, your English has a distinctly British accent and is very good.

I want to add it's crucial that you make every sound of the word hearable ;). I always hear only "o" in och, you say it with "k" at the end. Great. Also you say "jok", I always thought Swedish pronounce it like "jo.." without k. I love this video.
