This tutorial shows how I was able to achieve Fast and Noise Free renders in this video • Perception Neuron and ... which I rendered using Iray in DAZ Studio.
The body mocap is brought into DAZ Studio using Mixamotion & the facial mocap using Facemotion, two awesome plugins for applying Full Body mocap from iClone, Perception Neuron, Mixamo, and Facial performance capture from an iPhone X and the Facecap app, to Daz Studio. These apps are great for those who are jumping into 3D and Facial animation, and indie filmmakers who want to create their own short films using the expansive character library offered by Daz3D.
You can get the Mixamotion and Face Motion plugins at this link: dazney.com/shop ~ I will update the link once the plugin becomes available through the Daz3d.com marketplace.

Another helpful tip is that if you possess a good graphics card with sufficient VRAM, navigate to Render Settings > Advanced and uncheck the "CPU" option under "Hardware". This significantly improves your speed, particularly in preview mode using Iray. Strangely, DAZ tends to utilize both CPU and GPU simultaneously, regardless of whether the scene consumes all your VRAM or not. One might assume it would only use the CPU when the GPU's VRAM is fully occupied, but the reality is not. When I use preview mode (Iray), it consumes 100% of my GPU (RTX 4090) and CPU (i9 13900k), causing considerable lag. However, by deselecting the "CPU" option and combining it with the denoiser and reduced sample size mentioned in this video, the preview mode becomes nearly as fast as shaded mode, with no noticeable lag, and renders nearly in real-time.

I used to wait 30-40 minutes to see an iray preview, and now it shows in less than 3 seconds! Also I didn't know you could use 2 different cards to render in Iray. I'm now using my 1660 with my old 1060 and performance is through the roof. Your video is literally a god send, keep up the good work!! ❤

I can't believe I never knew about the noise degrain filtering options. I have found more solutions in the short time since I discovered your channel than I have since the day I discovered the software. I just ran a test animation render and it is outputting at 30 seconds per frame with extremely clear results. Thank you so much Solomon! Wish I could subscribe twice. Well deserved!

Very nice tutorial, mate! It is nice to see that someone actually thinks about what to show, before he hits the recording button. So many people just keep talking and talking, selecting wrong backgrounds, changing stuff back and forth and ultimately waste 50% of the time for thinking while recording .... instead of planning ahead. You got my sub!

I particularly appreciate the absence of disturbing and irritating "music" (noise really) in the background. Also no trend or vogue, of the invasion of one's monitor with a live facial image. I'm not doing animation yet, just still imagery. But wow, what a difference dropping the iterations and compositing the image make! A light and reflection intensive render that took me about 3 hours now takes me about 8 minutes, including the time to composite the image (using a single RTX 2070). Thank you!

Especially because the fast workflow and this all takes like 2 clicks I think DAZ IRAY for people at least as far as my testing beat BLENDER CYCLES with these settings that you told us because so far per my testing to get a good render(via diffeomorphic) I gotta use the Materialize texture app to create a metal and a bump map to even come close to what DAZ Studio can do default with people

DUDE You seriously are amazing with this Informative video. I have been tinkering with Daz and animation off and on for years. Rendering has always seemed way too damn slow. I bought my sons PC a few months back. SSD drives, RTX 2070 and saw a big Improvement but still damn slow. I was going to add another GPU (I still plan on adding another) to speed things up but BAMMM I saw this video. What was going to take me 3 hours to render before this video, I had done in less than 15 minuets. I subscribed to your channel and am a fan. If I had more than two thumbs they would all be up for you. Thank You.

The wisdom of Solomon... you have our gratitude, sir. :) Thank you for sharing your knowledge of this subject. If anyone is wondering about those two 2080 Ti cards Sol mentions he uses; how fast they can render a still frame at 100 samples? It takes roughly 40-50 seconds to render a UHD quality render using one RTX 3080--which is about as powerful as two RTX 2080 Tis. You may also set your samples to 1000 and only have to wait about 80 seconds for one 3840x2160 sized still.

This doesn't work too much with large reflexive surfaces like a large piece of glass. It becomes blurry. So, if you don't have glass in your image, go for it, otherwise, set a higher sample rate and decrease the denoiser effect.

*turn off native shaders, set native rendering resolution to 1x1 pixel if you can but set Iray to ideal render res, either completely close the viewport or shrink it if you can (still takes power to display it unless you shrink or close it) Without optimizing Iray materials i can render out approximately 1 frame a second using 3 old GTX 970's and an i7 using 7 CPU threads at 300 x 300 px (just testing head animations) I was using iClone 8 and set iClone priority in the taskbar to "high" for extra speed. Total scene: 6732 tris. Additionally the scene used an 8k IBL image and approximately 4 4k maps (could have set Iray Compression and or turned of metal etc) Also close any tab you don't actually need displayed! For large projects setting your virtual memory to 32 GB or more also stabilizes projects. I don't know how much more speed you'll get in Iray with Daz but doing these additional steps I'm getting 5 - 6x times faster renders in Iray with iClone :) Some of these methods also greatly speed up physics calculations & baking. Also with my method, exporting an Iray stand alone project takes just about as much time as rending from the main program so it best to render out from the main program rather than waiting twice as long to see your finished render ;)

Yeah I've been monitoring my CPU and when rendering an animation and IRAY renders in bursts it renders like ......with my CPU capping software that caps the CPU usage to 50% for DAZ Studio it renders at like 50 percent of my CPU for like 5 seconds and then it goes down to zero for like 7 seconds and back up to 50% for five seconds and so on like in a Cycle so it just does it iN BURSTS...so so with the CPU capping software that I have see my other comment it won't hurt your computer at all as long as you monitor your CPU temperature just to be safe with REAL TEMP software set an alarm in the settings for it it has an alarm function... Because that's the one thing that could hurt a computer which are made to be run pretty hard all the time anyways the only thing that could really hurt computer when rendering is too high CPU temperatures

Thanks Solomon, this was awesome! could you also show strategies for compositing animations on a still background? Also, do you ever composite the character animations onto a 3D background? I.e., if I render animation with a 3D environment (but with no characters in it), then afterwards composite the 3D character animation on top. If you use that workflow I'd love to see a video to get some ideas. So much appreciated and keep them coming! thx Darryl

3D backgrounds take a lot of time to render, one thing you can do if your camera rotates and doesn't move more than a few meters, is to convert your 3D environments into HDRI, it saves you huge amounts of time, this video shows how to do it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJavlat4ht93mtk&ab_channel=ThundornGames

@@DJAchintya try upgrading to 4.14. Also check your hardware settings under the render settings, and make sure your GPUs are selected

@@SolomonJagwe unfortunately I cannot use newer versions because upgraded Iray will not work on my Quadro K2200, tried this already, they don't support Kepler anymore, my latest version of Daz will be 4.12, until God will send me new computer. Thank you, my friend!!!

Noise degrain filtering? Mind If I ask what that may be? I've seen it here and there but seemingly so little of the people I know have mentioned its work... Do you mind if I ask what does it do?

The Noise Degrain Filter is similar to Intel's Open Image Denoiser applied in a native form in DAZ Studio. If you want an in-depth article, check out Intel's page on it. www.openimagedenoise.org/ If you've ever noticed your renderings looking 'grainy', that's noise. What the filter does is calculate out that noise, but sometimes with a reduction to picture quality. A popular method around using a Denoiser is rendering the image 1.5x larger than you intend and then resizing down, which can clean up some of the noise or grain.

Actually leave CPU checked off in advanced render settings if you have a high end graphics card and leave GPU only. Otherwise your cpu will slow renders down a few seconds per frame....You can also render AVI with green back round and chroma key it out in most video software...save you a little more time.

You could have started with I have two GPU cards and that would have explained it.
