Lots of good information, thanks. Another thing that can be slowing down a PC is if it is throttling back because of heat. This was my issue on my notebook and the fix was to blow the dust out. I used a compressor with the regulator set to very low pressure.

Your Windows 10 tips are a godsend. Also, I am grateful that you mentioned that Windows Defender works as well as some anti-virus programs. I have Webroot in my Dell Inspiron computer since 2017. I may be on the verge using up my subscription. Then I will not renew it anymore. To you, I am subscribed. Also, I am on the verge of switching my Web Browser from Google Chrome to Microsoft Edge.

If your computer is not a fresh baked cookie, you can still have a huge benefit moving from hard disk to SSD. And this works on portable computers too. My oldest computer is a core 2 duo and having a SSD inside makes it usable for web browsing and Office tasks

I have used ReadyBoost to speed up my laptop. My laptop has HDD, and it doesn't have SSD. I've learnt about ReadyBoost from Microsoft troubleshoot website, and it helped me.
