The food crisis in Romania was in the period 1978-1990. The crisis was felt most strongly in the less industrialized cities. But there was that subsistence agriculture from which the vast majority of the population in the cities supplied themselves with food. Most of the townspeople had connections with their families who lived in the villages, where they had households, from where they got food.

I love this fact. You can feel the strong sense of self reliance and community on the romanian people. They may be the strongest group collectively that we have met.

This May I went back on holiday there to visit my mom and took her out to a terrace in the main square...I shit you not: I've never heard A WORD in Romanian throughout the whole square!!! Except for the waiters and shop clerks, everybody was from somewhere else! WOW! Major difference compared to the industrial communist city I grew up in some decades ago. GOOD JOB KZbin! 😍

Black Church was very dark during my childhood, but going back there a few years back it was covered in scafolding and I realized they were power washing it ?

Welcome to Romania :) By far the funniest thing in the world for me is when especially Americans but also those from Western Europe ask if it is safe to visit Romania or Eastern Europe in general... I don't want to be arrogant or mean to anyone but HOW can Americans ask if a country that is ranked 21st safest in the world is safe to visit when they live in the country that is ranked 121st in the world for safety?! as most countries, our news is propaganda. It's designed to create fear to prevent people from freely moving and interacting with the rest of the world. They don't want us to see how alike we all are. It makes it harder to control us. Most of what you learn about the United States is also false. There is always an agenda. It's hard to convince people to go to war and murder each other when we understand each other. Perceived lack of safety is the easiest route to get people to feel fear and not do something.
