How to spend THOUSANDS of dollars to throw something away! 😂

I'll be getting back to the regular machine shop/Jeep videos this Sunday. But this is just a short video of the mess we had to clean up after a big storm that went through NE Ohio. Power was out for som 800,000 households, 65,000 in my county alone, which is about half the total households. We were blessed that we had power, but we were offline for 5 days - it's amazing how much we rely on the internet and how much you realize that when it's unavailable.
This big tree was in our front yard and was damaged in the storm. It took a crew of seven men over 3 hours to safely take this tree down. It was expensive, as much as it would cost to buy a fully refurbished and well tooled South Bend Heavy 10" Lathe. 😭 It's a set back, for sure, but feel blessed that the house was unscathed and nobody was hurt.

We had one tree trimmed and shaped and it was £2000 ($2600) for about 3 hours work with one cherry picker. Crazy prices. Cheers

It’s a hard labor job for sure. And dangerous. A tree crew I had used 3 years ago, two brothers, one of the brothers was killed last year on a job. Sad situation. The other brother did not want to do this job at all.

They are in pretty high demand around here. I was glad he was able to get to this one as quick as he did. The last tree had to be schedule a couple months out.

When I first built my house some 24 years ago, I would call this guy that would cut down smaller caliper trees around 16" for $100 each and keep the wood. He was a real brute in his mid 50's from Chesterland, OH and the pastor of Flowers Mill Christian Church.

I'm not too far from Chesterland! Maybe 20 minutes north of there. I called a few places to remove the planned tree out back, they were all about the same. Although the Amish crew was a touch less expensive, but not by much.

Not from this tree. The tree we had cut down a few weeks ago (the planned one) we did keep. I will most likely never run out of firewood from that one. So for this one, I opted to have it all taken away. Some of it will be firewood, some of it will get milled into lumber. But there was far too much wood in this tree for me to want to keep.
