Thanks very much for giving us your knowledge and experience. The only criticism I have, is that it seems like many bee keepers (and probably any expert in any area) seems to think that people just know things. I'm a brand new bee keeper, literally, and am trying to get all the information I can. When you say things like "and of course we want to make sure we don't bring the queen with us, otherwise.. huh... well, yeah... anyway..." . I think it would be better if you said "we don't want to bring the queen with us because...." and then you could give us a one or two sentence explanation as to why this is bad.Once again, many of us are learners, and you're a teacher, so I'm just giving some feedback. Thanks so much for the info!!

Did this to a pissy hive this year and guess where the queen was? On one of the frames i moved into the nuc. I actually had a supersedure cell in the nuc. Went back in a few days and it was torn down and there were eggs. Rookie beekeeper here lol

Thats ok. The nuc will just do better. The hive will make a new queen. I’ve never tried finding the queen. I had bees 35 years ago for a few years and worked with a commercial bee keeper. I just bought 4 nucs and can’t believe how things have changed in 35 years! Honey and bees are expensive! Pollination too.

Good video. Advice, never flip or turn a frame upside down. You could drown the larvae/ brood. Thanks

Hi, using this method would I need to move my nuc far away, or would it be OK to set it up nearby?

So the bees will stick around long enough for a new queen to hatch? I see others putting a purchases queen in with the split is why I ask. Thank you! 👍🏻

Derek, do you isolate the splits from the outside world by keeping them in the nuc for a day or two, or do you just let them come and go from the nuc straightaway?

4th year keeper here. I created a split similar to this process, but rather than looking for eggs, I inserted frames with swarm cells. One frame of honey to feed them, one frame with capped brood, and two essentially empty frames with additional bees to attend. Viable method in your opinion?

there is a lot of bees in that box do you think making a nuc was taking enough bees out of it will keep it from swarming., I have a box that has a deep and 2 medium brood boxes and its chuck full of bees

Whether you color blind or not you can still see the markings to find the queen more easily. How many bees do you see in the hive with paint on them? One

Voici un example dude ce qu’on met dans un nuc. The cluster is where the queen lays eggs but it’s must have a controlled temperature between 89 and 95 degrees centigrade. The nurse bees also control the temperature a little like a chicken on eggs but bees cover that part with there cluster and they fan their wings so sas to warm the hive up when it’s cold,cool it off when it is too warm and create that circulation of air so that there is not too much himidity. As the no of bees increase the cluster will grow but always from the inside out.

Can you introduce a new queen cage queen to the split?
@patfromamboy
@patfromamboy 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I think this technique is used so you don’t have to but adding a new queen should save a few weeks.

I live in Washington state and my girlfriend lives in Brazil so I’m going to bring back some queens from Brasil because they don’t have problems with mites. I should be able to put them in my carryon or suitcase. I’m 60 so customs leaves me alone. I want to see if they can survive in our climate.

Might they be Africanized bees? Brazil managed to work the Africanized bees. They (the bees) are the best, and the worst. Good luck.

if you were to lose the queen how would you know that the hive has no queen or would you only know after bees start dieing
@Jax8002
@Jax8002 8 жыл бұрын
You have to go into the hive on a weekly basis. When you open the hive, there should be larvae in uncapped cells and also capped cells. If you only see capped cells, or none at all, you have to re-queen the hive or the rest will die.
