[How To] Split PS3 Games To Fit on FAT32 External Hard Drives for CFW PS3

Certain PS3 games cannot fit on a FAT32 formatted external hard drive because certain files are larger than 4GB. In order to get these games working with multiman, you will need a program called Split4G to split the files, and then recombine them on the PS3 for playing. See video tutorial for more details!

Just wanted to add an extra step that may help some people trying this method. Once you have used the program and created a series of split files. Take these files on a Fat32 usb drive. The game folder created will be inside a folder of the name of the game. Take the game named folder with the split files inside it and copy this entire folder to a folder called PS3ISO inside the dev 000 HDD internal hard drive of your ps3. When I did this my game appeared in the games list in multiman and could be played just like any other game on the Hdd. Hope this helps others who follow this tutorial and then cannot see their game show up in multiman..

@@wiseguygr Playing games straight from external storage is generally considered volatile because the slightest nudge in the USB port can cause it to disconnect which can potentially corrupt save & game data. Unless you're 100% confident in the placement of your external storage it is advisable to copy game files onto your internal PS3 HDD so you won't have to worry about the USB port thing but 12GB is incredibly small to have multiple AAA games on PS3 so I'd look into third-party upgrades for that internal flash storage to either 250GB, 500GB, or more. If you are going to split the games to small sizes to fit on your external storage you absolutely will not be able to run it and have to "merge" them into system via copying as demonstrated in the video since FAT32 / exFAT only support max. 4GB file sizes.

Heres one tip. If youre usb is connected to an android device the just use the .rar file (on the playstore) and just copy and paste it. For some reason it ignores the 4gb limit

Can you please help me? I run the program and split several games: I split an ISO of Little Big Planet 3 into two parts, a BIN file for BlazBlue Central Fiction, and a few others. I put the folder in both the Games folder for my external Hard drive and Multiman didn't pick it up when I clicked refresh like it usually does with other games. I then put in the main directory for the hard drive and Multiman still didn't register it. The split files in the Little Big Planet Iso get called Lbp3.iso.66600 and Lbp3.iso.66601. The same for the Bin files. I don't know what I'm doing wrong..?

I don't remember what I did differently the following time (I think I used PS3 ISO Tools and it worked for the Little Big Planet ISO. The split4G did work for God of War: Ascension. However, it's still not helping for BlazBlue Central Fiction, which has a BIN file labeled bddata.bin that's over 14 gb. It'll split it but regardless of where I put it (PS3ISO folder or otherwise), it doesn't get picked up in Multiman.

From what I remember you can have the games on the external hard drive, but it still needs to install game content to the local ps3 internal hard drive. Classic example I remember is GTA V. I have it on my 1tb external but when running the game it installs like 8GB of content to the internal hard drive. Any patches you install that stuff also goes to internal hard drive too. I don't think we can trick the PS3 to install everything to external and run from there. If I am wrong and you find a workaround, let me know!

I know this is an old vid but if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. I have tried this with a few ISOs to no avail, I can split an ISO file no problem however in Multiman it never shows the game when the file is .iso.66600/01/02 etc the folder is named PS3ISO as well. When I follow the steps for copying the folder there is only the option to overwrite however when selected is does merge the ISOs but I don't believe it merges them correctly as when this is then booted an ISO error 32 appears, this has happened on multiple ISOs even ones I know that work from transferring via FileZilla. If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated

It's been a super long time since I've played around with my jailbreak ps3, but put the split game onto fat32 format usb, and have it transferred to the ps3 via multiman or installed with multiman. Get the latest copy of multiman from the github, that should help, or look into webman mod as an alternative.
