The video was incredibly clear on the technique, you could also tell by the coughs of the camera person that it was a child doing the camera work and I'd say they did a fine job.

A tip: watch movies at kaldrostream. Been using them for watching loads of movies these days.

Great video - I am making a retaining wall with the same blocks and needed to split some for ends of the rows. I was wondering how to handle splitting hollow blocks without destroying the walls - until I saw your video. Thanks a lot for taking the time to show us how to do it - and thanks to your young photographer, too!

Great! That's exactly what I was looking for. And what a cute camera-girl! Thank you!

This guy is the only one I watched that mentioned the different sides to the blades. Turns out this makes a better, cleaner break.
@JustLight-it4 ай бұрын
Fr before this I didn't even realize that the side of the blade mattered. Had a tough time today trying to chip some cinderblocks the way I wanted and think this little bit of information would have helped me out.

It fits! It fits! That's awesome. :) Thanks for the video... I was trying to drill through a brick and then crack it between the holes. I couldn't even get a single hole drilled!

I scored a solid windsor wall block 360 degress, which included the groove on the back. Then I tapped or hit harder on the groove built into the back of the block, and it split exactly where I wanted to. Easily! Thanks so much.

It is for sure cheaper but you can buy a circular saw with the cement blade brand new for less than 100. You can also buy a grinder with a blade forthe same price and it would take you no time. I only cut pavers this way and that is if i have one or two to cut.

take a angle grinder cut a line 1/8in deep round the block make it easier to keep in straight line and looks alot cleaner and you never have to worry about breaking it in random spots.

On all these KZbin videos of guys splitting blocks, you always hear coughing. Silica is nothing to play with and you should always wear an approved mask for silica dust.
@bethratliff63596 жыл бұрын
They (pavetech) make an actual block splitter for this also. It's a simple piece of equipment. Of course it's something extra to buy but it only takes literally 5 seconds to split a block instead of 10 minutes. If it's something you're going to do repeatedly, it's worth it.

This is truly character building. Just get a circ saw.

You actually want a rough edge for these retaining wall end pieces so it looks more natural.

My stone cutting chisels are made of superquenched rebar, but brine works too for chromoly-ish junkyard steel.

@luciusirving5926 Жыл бұрын
You could forge a chisel from rebar and quench it in brine for masonry. Don't worry, it won't crack like known alloys. No tempering required.

6-7 minutes a brick, about 47-100 bricks a day?
@garrettlo838 жыл бұрын
you usually only need to cut the bricks on the ends. maybe a dozen total depending on the wall.

Are you talking about a Stihl chopsaw? Yeah they cost $3000 the last time I checked. If he doesn't do stuff like that on a daily basis he shouldn't buy a $3000 saw.
