Rather than putting the stone on bits of wood, where it bounces around, put it on a bag of sand. It sits more firmly and the impacts go more efficiently into the stone.

Not only was your video extremely helpful but you are absolutely adorable and had me laughing by the end of the video. Also, I loved the fact that you did it barefoot, and phooey on anyone who gives you a hard time about it!

Thank you thank you thank you. I have the same stone as you are demonstrating. I didn't have a chisel like yours, so I used a railroad tie nail. Did as you demonstrated and had the same result as you. Amazing. Perfect fit into my project.

Thanks. There's something quite raw and primitive cutting stone with tools. I recently had a go at cutting patio slabs. I did find that laying them on some builders sand on the patio a great way to stop any movement. But these were bigger slabs. My first two cuts went pear shaped and the split occured prematurely. Easier with straight line cuts. If you had a whole patio to do, a power tool would be better, but, it's great to practice with yours hands and bring out the stone masoner in you, skills that have probably been lost in this high tech world of ours. 😁😁😁

"Just like cutting a diamond" LOL, as if we cut diamonds all the time and can relate that to cutting a block.
@johnblanton76013 жыл бұрын
Of course with diamonds the cutter takes advantage of natural cleavage planes in the stone. These concrete blocks don't have cleavage planes.

will this technique work on a round rock?
@johnblanton76013 жыл бұрын
I have cut limestone field blocks using this method. However, these stones are nearly flat on opposite sides. To cut a round stone you would need to score it deeply all around the fracture line. It is not like cutting a diamond, because diamonds have natural fracture planes.
