Really nicely and safely explained and demonstrated. Thank you very much

Just wanted to say how important safety is when doing this, I did it wrong ONCE. Knife slipped straight into my left index finger and completely cut through my tendon. 100% incision. The surgeon who fixed it was impressed at the clean cut.

Thank ee. I've a load of rods to split and I kept ending up with little slivers as the crack ran off within inches. Your technique makes so much sense. Thank ee.

Ben, thanks for a very useful tutorial. I've tried this but did it the 'dangerous' way - this is much nicer and more controlled by the looks of it.

Good technique: twist the speaking ne towards the thick part in order to keep the splitting line centered. thanks. Subscribed and Waiting for more.

If you have a look at Hyezmar’s design in his Woodworking Bible, you can get a great alternative design for this.

no offence meant but i think you're taking the whole safety thing too far, obv your intentions are good but you are babying everybody with that stuff, just a quick word at the start and a "watch yourself at this point it's easy to slip" would make your vids a lot more watchable, people doing this kind of thing are the kind of people who are going to disregard excessive safety advice (or else they wouldnt be outside fiddling with knives and wood in the first place), or just disregard any safety advice alltogether because they view it as pointless waffle, as it often is when talking to sensible people.
