Great video. I always tie or hook my line to something & walk it out then reel it back up after a days fishing. It repositions all the line correctly on the spool.

Crazy to run into this video. I just bought the same brand of braid except mine was hi-viz yellow on my Lews xfinity. I put braid on at the river so I could only use my fingers to hold tension on the line. Maybe I should re string it tighter. It was 20 lbs. braid as well.

Instead of braid you should try flouro or mono if it is your first time using a bait caster. Braid is very good line but it is not ideal for a beginner.

Great video...one other tip. Get that rag wet with water or soak your braid spool overnight. Helps pack it on tight to avoid "digging" when you have that 32" walleye on. Good Fishing!

** most reels don't have those holes. In my opinion & experience a knot like that is not ideal because the line will catch on it, however the tape makes up for that. Now tight is good but I recommend getting a bucket of water putting your free spool in the 🪣 of water , then just like he said using a gloved hand or towel , a friend I'd only recommend a light to medium amount of tension as the water is going to help get as much line on your reel , too much tension and too tight your causing friction and shortening the life of the line. I'm also now in MI, but coming from FL where most the fish caught here in Michigan could be considered bait size the knot just needs to lay flat and hold it's place until you get it going. If you hook up with something that spools you honestly no knot will make a difference 1 of 2 things will happen the line will pop or 2 worst case your reel and possibly you are both going in the water. So there are some better choices than others but the point Is just to get it started

You’re supposed to have something besides braid as backing. Also, not all baitcasters have holes to put them through.

I absolutely love putting it through the wifle ball idea.... Except on my reels, it always breaks with little pull pressure. Must be a sharp edge on the inside.

You have most likely figured out 20lb test is way too light for a bait caster , causes dig in and snap offs , over 30lb is better
