If you like Celebrations, Heroes or Quality Sreet, keep hold of the container - perfect for pre-soaking line and braid spools before adding them onto your reels. A couple of days should be enough soaking for most monos or braids. Buy a cheap, narrow Tupperware cereal container and use that to hold your spool in the water while you wind it on. The lid will stop the water (or most of it) from splashing out, and the width of the container will stop the line spool from flipping, which causes the splashing. Ask your tackle shop if they have any old rod butts and then you can have a dedicated butt for loading reels without having to dig a rod out of your holdall. If you don't want to burn your fingers winding the line on, then just tie a tea towel around the rod and wind the line through that - tie it between the rod ring and the reel, above and below. The towel will also take on the colour that sometimes washes off a pre-soaked braid. While you've got the reel off the rod, and the spool off the reel, why not take the time to clean the reel, and add reel oil or reel grease to keep it running smooth? Also a good time to change your toothbrush - old one can be used for your reels, new one for your teeth.

That's a very good idea Joe using the vent hole in the pan, Thank you for that

Nice tip, Joe, about the vent hole in a pan. Thanks for sharing.

Great tip. Saves having to wear a wet-suit to keep dry and chasing the spool around the kitchen 🤣

Add some sandpaper to the outside and inside of the spool, slide a pen through the spool, and the missus can file her her nails while she holds the spool on the pen. Happy wife, happy life.

Never use electrical tape Joe as when the weather warms up the sticky tape glue melts and you get it all on your line. If you want to use tape use plumbers PTFE tape which has no glue. Its always better to use line as backing but if you want to wrap a few turns of PTFE tape round that you can. I use Preston reels for feeder work but Shimano XRs for float work these come with the plastic reducers which mean no backing necessary wonder why no other manufacturer offer this option or at least offer a low capacity spool' 150 mts is plenty of line for me and l suspect many more.

When would you use a shallow spool instead of the deep spool . And why are there two types.. never understood why.. get your listening gear around... Crystal viper and burning witches..

I’ll have a dabble. Don’t seem to see those on the reels I use these days. Never understood it myself

One for fine lines one for thick lines & if they still screaming when they been under for an hour they are not witches is the general consensus. ✨️👍

I'm have no idea what's wrong with modern reels I have tournaments tdrs and the line lay on all of them is shocking not matter how hard I try or move washers the line lay is never perfect let alone excellent my mitchell reels 40 years ago had better line lay and less faf with washers I have centris reels as well and they don't supply enough washers in them either asked loads of time for spare washers and only got two but they did try for me.
@stevemccrory91309 ай бұрын
Totally agree. Something so simple, and they can't fix this problem, despite all of tech that goes into them. Ridiculous to pay £300+ for a reel that isn't perfect, which they often claim them to be.

Joe I've copied every video on here for ages. And still it always ends up looking like spaghetti.. i just take the reel to the shop and they do it for me now.. it's easier .. best line I've used is diawa sensor.. matrix and preston to weak it's like cotton.. best reels sonik 4000 series reels are amazing

Dont get why people do these fancy knots on a empty reel 🤷♂️ your putting over 100 metres on
@MatchFishingFilms6 ай бұрын
I've had the tag ends (even trimmed down to the knot) poke through and interfere with my casting numerous times in the past. So why not do a good knot that prevents it?
