Flavour and all kinds of additives were and are a big thing in angling!! Every tackle shop offers an awefull lot of this stuff. Wich tells you, there is no magical ingrediant out there. Best addition to your bait is confidence. Personaly I like to add soy sauce, liquid liver or other stuff, that not only adds flavour. It also changes the taste of my bait.

I think fish 'get smart' and come to realise that flavoured bait Joe , Steve Ringer and rest of anglers are using today is best avoided. Congrats on pick up.

Flavours, remember that jean desque told us years ago he can only say for definite that a flavour worked and that was vanilla for roach, personally I remember fishing and a mate was using Pol vitimo,and bagging whilst I was struggling switched to Pol vitimo and started catching, coincidence 🤔

Regards bread ... i dont think they are choosing to eat it. It is just a light, but big bait that gets sucked up while they are eating pellets (you touched on this in the first pub chat with mick). The bread goes in almost by mistake. That's why I reckon many fish are lost and hook holds can be poor. They've not specifically eaten it, or potentially tried to avoid it, but its gone in anyway and rather than confidently sit up and hook themselves, they tried to reject it early or stayed on the spot and the size of the bread then helps the hook to leave and it doesnt catch the mouth where it should, or would with a heavier bait. Okay, wafters are light, but being smaller, they dont have the same surface area to be picked up by water movement. Basically, put both in a tub of water and waft the water with your hand. The wafter hardly moves, while the bread shoots away. On the flip side, its also the reason that so many are hooked (albeit poorly sometimes) in the first place. The fish are not feeding, you just get the odd one having a taste or a drive by snack, probably sucking at the bait from a few inches above the feeder. So there's not enough "suction power" to move a wafter, but enough to move a lump of bread (with that in mind, short hooklengths are possibly another contributing factor to poor hookholds as maybe it doesnt get far enough in to start off with?).

The only thing is the anglers are using very hard compressed bread that sinks well. It fluffs up a little but nothing like the way anglers would use say bomb and bread.
@scottrhodes232Күн бұрын
With bread I think you need a longer hair than normal, as bread swells and leaves very little gap between bread and hook. Read an article years ago by a carp angler regarding hair length and he was convinced a bigger gap between bait and hook gave a better hook hold.
@MatchFishingFilmsКүн бұрын
Yea I have been using a longer hair and in fairness haven’t lost a fish on it. The way anglers are using bread at boddington actually means it doesn’t swell that much. Very hard compressed bread

Joe. High pressure does not affect the distance that you can cast. Quick Google search will give you the answers. Great result for our team despite a awful game 😊
@MatchFishingFilmsКүн бұрын
It must do something to your line though because on those days it doesn’t even want to sink and I’ve noticed it hang in the air more too
@166ChattyКүн бұрын
Hi Joe, regarding additives and flavours, personally I agree with your reasoning if everyone is using them it must cause more caution when fish approach the bait. I believe doing something different can get you those extra bites. Remember up there for thinking, down there for dancing. Don't follow the crowd.

White and yellow best for clear water, and red and orange for coloured, flavour irrelevant, in my experience.

On the subject of flavours, I only fish for barbel and chub on rivers, always used shop bought halibut type pellets and spam and done ok, but since swapping to the really smelly stuff from Vortex I’ve noticed a massive improvement, especially in flood conditions using bigger baits such as 14mm pellets.

Good job. I’m going to miss this series. Think you should keep going until you win one 😉 On additives: as a (part time) speci carp angler, I‘d say sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad. When the going is tough the fish sometimes shy away from overly „boosted“ baits imo
@MatchFishingFilmsКүн бұрын
Interesting take. I have noticed on the river, when there’s a tinge of colour the more scent the bait emits the better. But cast that hook bait on a clear river and it just doesn’t work

Re: Additives and baits.I have always been a bit sceptical about all these so called wonderbaits an additives. There doesn't pass a week without yet another wonderbait appearing which catches you loads off fish. i have always believed in either White, Red or Yellow as the best Bait colours and Fishmeal woth a bit of sweetness added in the end of spring to mid Autumn then Mild soft flavoured additives like washed out Scopex as a fore instance. Anyway back to the fishing, I was so pleased that you changed to Wafter. Just like the Yellow or Red ones this time of year. Well done for 2nd in section. Great series with loads of info and interesting items. Well done Joe. Cheers

I’ve always questioned the goo’s looks great in a tank a green hue coming up the water column but how natural is that does anything naturally do that or is it such a powerful attractant that the un-normal becomes a non issue for the fish
@MatchFishingFilmsКүн бұрын
It’s a weird one as it’s certainly not natural but undoubtedly that green effect works on some places
