Nice one Mark- I can't say I am surprised that you bought a good 150, owners seem to settle down with them and look after them better than the higher power cars which tend to get moved on quickly and therefore don't tend to have a long term approach to maintenance.

Some good advice there. As a mk1 Audi TT KZbinr, I have undertaken a lot of research into this sector. I think you will struggle to find a 180 or 225 for sale today over £4k. People are struggling to sell these cars right now and a lot of decent 3.2s are struggling to fetch over £3k. I am not sure 180s and 190s are that desirable as a daily as the fuel economy has very little difference and I feel the performance differential is noticable. My recommendation for picking up a car today as an investment is a low mile, unmolested and rare colour car car. I disagree on your statement on colour though. The rare colours are holding money much better. For example, there were 41 Papaya 3.2 v6 coupes produced for the UK market so much rarer than the QS even. I have a 3.2 V6 Papaya with low miles and it will definitely be holding its money based mainly on the colour and miles.I would rate Autotrader over other sites as they have to state the "cat" status of the car whilst Ebay or Marketplace to not. I also own a 225 coupe project car and 225 Roadster ;)

COMMENT - I think you will struggle to find a 180 or 225 for sale today over £4k: REPLY - There are around 35 for sale right now according to Autotrader, considering the cost of fixing up a bad one I don't think over £4k is not unreasonable if it's an up together car. COMMENT - People are struggling to sell these cars right now and a lot of decent 3.2s are struggling to fetch over £3k. REPLY - I've seen 3 3.2s sell this weekend, one for £5700 (silver roadster 57k) and one for £12990 (26k blue coupe) and a Papaya 3.2 up north (don't recall miles but big money and lots of owners) COMMENT - I am not sure 180s and 190s are that desirable as a daily as the fuel economy has very little difference and I feel the performance differential is noticeable REPLY - they appear to offer better value for money so yet get a better car for your money, no haldex in the case of FWD models and they are lighter and cheaper to maintain and less to go wrong. In my opinion and those of the motoring press they drive better than quattro models as they are lighter and ride better on smaller wheels and the mpg is better (FACT). COMMENT - My recommendation for picking up a car today as an investment is a low mile, unmolested and rare colour car car. I disagree on your statement on colour though. The rare colours are holding money much better. For example, there were 41 Papaya 3.2 v6 coupes produced for the UK market so much rarer than the QS even. I have a 3.2 V6 Papaya with low miles and it will definitely be holding its money based mainly on the colour and miles. REPLY - Many years ago I used to sell Mk2 Golf GTIs and everyone wanted an Oak Green one but because of their cult status they tended to get bought by the wrong type of owners who just wanted the latest 'in' car and were generally far harder to find in good condition and not all that rare. The only reason they are rare now is because a lot must have been scrapped. It's the same with the Mk1 TT. Look at it this way, what point is there having a rare colour car if it's suffering from terminal corrosion or has so many minor faults that need putting right it's going to cost £4k on top of what you paid when an up together lower mileage/owner car in a normal colour can also be bought? Considering how poor the average Mk1 TT is now, why narrow the choice down to fraction of those available just for something as superficial as colour? Don't get me wrong I love the rare colours but I also hate rust and getting the two together will be tricky. BTW one Papaya 3.2 (8 owners) sold over the weekend and another appeared with 9 owners (not same car!)

Thanks for the info Andrew. I'd also add one MOT inspectors 'Advisory' is another's clean sheet the next year.As i saw with my Lupo GTI a while back.
@volkswizardАй бұрын
That is true - clearly there is reason why some testers issue lots of advisories and it has to be that it looks better to VOSA. The second most expensive TT for sale (a blue 3.2) has advisories for corrosion but the seller has posted pics of the underside and it's bloomin' incredible down there so corrosion can mean scabby flakes of metal or a very light coating. Makes life difficult so I'll be taking a torch and getting dirty knees!

My 2000 225 is sat in my garage, I am going to keep it as it has only done 70k. Hopefully in a few years time it would be worth putting back on the road...as a classic. Until then, i am driving around in my Mk2 TTS...addicted I am.
@davidhayes4814Ай бұрын
These cars have suffered from being too cheap for too long. Compared with the corrosion problems of some classics ….Jag mk2 springs to mind……, the TT is not bad at all. However it is still not worth fixing if the car is worth ~ £2K or £3K

@dinointhetubeАй бұрын
Sorry my correction it’s not really a series 1 as it’s was a late model with the upgrades. I would say mine is a series 1 as it’s a 1999 model and comes without the trip computer on the stalk as it was an optional extra. But mine still only done 51k miles

I live in Canada and I’d love a TT but they are so expensive where I live. Compared to UK prices anyway. For a half decent MK1 one they are 10K plus
@volkswizardАй бұрын
Someone said that about TTs in mainland Europe, I can only conclude that they are in better condition than the largely scrap that's for sale here in the UK :)

Whats the driving positionlike on the Roadsters as the seat back looks to be restricted by the rear hoops bulkhead. The sest back looks right back and very upright.

I am 6 foot and never had an issue, it's slightly better than R8 Spyder

Strange thing is also the rear wing was only recalled in March 2000 mine is a 1999 August model and according to dvla mine wasn’t recalled doesn’t make sense.

Well that’s a very rare car if it has no spoiler she could be very collectible. The Audi UK heritage fleet car (T reg) is unspoilered and was a customer car originally.

Not on topic but on autotrader mk2 Audi tts are listed as 3.2 TFSI V6🤔 how can they be listed when they aren’t turbocharged?😅
@volkswizardАй бұрын
It is on topic Dan as Mk2s are overlapping with Mk1s in price now and some are much cheaper than Mk1s. It's interesting you mention the 3.2 V6 TFSI because the MK1 is listed on AT as just V6 so if you select that you dodge all the Mk2s. Never considered the T being wrong! I guess compared to Porsche and their Turbo electric cars it's forgivable !

The time and date on my 225's dash used to reset to zero on every start up, looking into it at the time it was a known problem and the only way to sort it was send off the cluster for repair or replacement.
@volkswizardАй бұрын
Not seen that one but pretty much everything would fail, even the immobiliser which was built into the cluster and would leave people stranded
