How to spot a fake 100 dollar bill

Spotting a fake 100.00 bill is simple and easy to do when you know what to look for. I saw the fake 100.00 that was given to my customer and you could tell they printed it on a copier.
Look for the hidden strip on the left and the hologram on the right of Ben Franklin and the liberty bell in the purple strip.
Along with the fact you can slide a paper clip through the parts of the 100.00 bill where the purple strip is.
And Ben Franklin has actual ridges so if you rub your finger nail over them and it's smooth then I'd look at the other things to see if it's a fake but if you feel the ridges, well then you have a real 100.00 bill, which spends way to fast when I have them.

Another thing to look for are tiny little blue security threads in the actual fabric of the bill. They’re surprisingly hard to get and to fake, as most fakes are run off on paper, not fabric where threads could be easily added.

You can also crumble the cash (like if you were going to throw away) if the paper starts to open back up it’s real. If it’s fake it stays crumbled in a ball. Hope this helps ✌🏼

This happened to me today bro. To add more misery i went to my nearest atm to deposit said cash and the atm didnt take it. It canceled the process lmfao. My heart started racing. Drove 10 more minutes to the nearest bank and deposited and it worked. I had checked the cash when i got it for the drawing and saw the same thing you mentioned, a measly drawing of ben. This cleared things up… and the atm taking the money did also lol. They can detect if money is fake when it is being processed… that first atm trolled me so hard

Yeah I haven't looked at 100s in a while, and when I got one the other day I did a double-take at how janky that inner drawing of Ben is. I remember when this feature was first added back in the 90s, and someone passed a counterfeit at the DQ I was working at. When we were closing the register that night I held it up to the light and the image was legit some dude's terrible drawing of Ben. We were all cracking up at it, it was so bad. Now I wonder if that guy got a job at the US Mint lol

Make sure you examine the watermark very closely. Some counterfeiters will actually bleach a $5 bill (lowest bill with a watermark) and then reprint a $100 bill face on it. If you just check quickly to see if there is any watermark there at all, you may not notice that it's actually Abe Lincoln and not Ben Franklin. I personally have received bills like this before, so look out.

You might should mention this is a new (it's already been 5 years?) $100 bill. Here's hoping people don't confuse pre-2013 ones for fakes! PS - the "texture" of Ben's coat might wear down on more worn bills so don't dismiss it right away. PS - My old man taught me you can always tell a real bill from a fake if it smells like sweat and shame ;)

Michael Norman Better than feeling texture is to look for the tiny blue security threads. Fakes won’t have them. They have bigger things to worry about reproducing, and it’s surprisingly hard to add those little threads to the paper that counterfeiters tend to use.

Another note.....All bills that have the thin magnetic strip can also use a black light. On each different denomination, the strip will glow a different color. On $20 and $100 bills the strip is to the left of the portrait. On $5 , $10, and $50 bills the strip will be on the right of the portrait.

With the blue face $100 bills the blue security strip changes from a bell to 100. Also the pen isn’t 100% effective because you can remove ink from real bills (then print a new value on them), you can add a coating to paper, or you can use / make paper without starch. All those counterfeit pens do is test for starch using iodine. I work retail with a lot of other cashiers and I tell them to never rely solely on the pen. I had coworkers burned with fakes as low as $5 because they relied on the pen or didn’t bother checking at all.
