I was somehow able to get my grubby paws onto a genuine Bosch 044 pump so I thought I'd make a video showing direct comparisons between a legit and knock-off unit.

The knockoff was really noisy from new, the power terminals are also difficult to connect reliably as the base is under the plastic,this caused mine to fail on the freeway, unfortunately eBay sells so many fakes.

How do you know the knock-off isn't genuine and the genuine the knock-off ?????

Bosch has a unique identifier they include with every one of their pumps that can be verified when going to their website. They have enough counterfeit product floating around that they have this level of assurance to protect customers against knock-offs. The fake one had no such identifier.

Thanks for the video. At first I bought a no name 044 pump, obviously it was a knock off. And it was making bad noises inside, annoying. Thought it was a bad pump, so got a "genuine" Bosch 044 from eBay and inspected it when received and it falls in to the fake category just like you pointed out in this video. And it was also making the same bearing noises.

what about those many high priced chinese "044 style" pumps which offer resistance for ethanol, methanol, and very high flow and pressure rates? Can they be true or not? I bought one, payed high price and ta-da like 4 months and pump doesnt want to make enough pressure any more, unless i give it over 15v.. they cant be trusted what specs say!

I think i may have gotten a knockoff -it is way noisier than the original , just died completely ! If the price seems too good it's a fake generally.

THANK YOU for this! I bought a Bosch 044 from Rockauto at a decent price (but not a crazy deal to make me feel as if it was too good to be true). When it arrived the seal was broken, yet the code per Bosch said it was legit. Did someone swap the pump in the box? Your video helped me feel confident that this is truly an authentic Bosch 044 pump. Rockauto even said that it could’ve been an unused return that they opened for inspection, and I feel as if that could be my case.
