PokeObsession Hi PokeObession, I need some help, I have this platinum which is almost like what u explained in this video however, my code ends with 2 instead of 8 and I could not transfer Pokemon from Leafgreen. I do not know if it’s either my Leafgreen not authentic ( but looks pretty authentic to me from other guides) or this platinum that is not authentic or maybe it’s jus becoz of the slight damage on the surface of the cartridge. Both are second hand as I could not find it from retailer anymore..

Your heartgold and soulsilver video helped me to prove my soulsilver wasn't fake! I am so thankful! But I don't know if it happens the same with my heartgold. I checked it and everything seemed ok but then I played it and after 3 h in the middle of a battle the screen froze and I had to exit the game. Do you think it is fake? I'd like you to answer this question, but what I really wanna know is: if it is fake, will it damage my soulsilver's game or my 3ds?

Another easy way to spot a fake is by looking at the engraved Nintendo logo on the back of the cartridge. The “o” on “Nintendo” on a fake cartridge will be a perfect round circle. Whereas the o on an authentic copy will take the shape of an oval shaped circle. Hope that makes sense :)

Some other tidbits. If you look at the gold pins on the back. The fake doesn't have a shine to it, like the real one does. Also, if you look at the top edge of the cartridge the real one should have a notch like all authentic DS games. Unfortunately, the 100% way of telling if its fake/real is opening up the cartridge (i do not recommend this however) and looking at the circuit board. A real circuit board will have gold nintendo writing on it and will have 2 gate chips. A fake one will not have gold stamp writing and will 2 gate chips & 1 simulator piece. I've encountered some scenarios where the sticker was real, and the backs look really good, but games kept freezing and the gold pins looked different...

I've had a copy of platinum sitting around for a good long while. Never played it but I had my suspicions that it was fake. It looks almost 100% genuine, but the arrow on the bottom was engraved into the cartridge and not stamped and the game would constantly get stuck in my DS. Looking through all my games, it suprised me that the arrow was what gave the fake away lol. (Also if you notice, the white background where the code is on the fake game not only is bigger in size than on the real game, but the white color they use actually fades into the white used on the actual game art, specifically just under the ESRB logo. On Real cards there is a faint but noticeable separation between the two)

What about the form of the gray rectangle at the side of DS? Were the lines perfect at the inside of the figure? Apparently reproductions have perfect rectangles while legit games don't. Also the o of "Nintendo" is usually a perfect circle in reproductions.

it’s legit mate, don’t worry about it. he’s wrong about it only ending in J08. If you want to be super sure: The ultimate proof is to check for the shape of the gray square at the side of the DS label. At the inside, it shouldn't be so perfect as the black square above it. That is a detail that aparently not reproduction manage to copy so far. Also a perfectly round o in "Nintendo" is super common in replicas. And about the j22, I have seen it on legit Diamond replicas

I am super pissed right now. Ordered one on eBay for $150. Came in a box, in the box was a plastic package that was opened. The date stamped on the package was two days before I bought it, meaning that it was opened to authenticate and then sold online. This got me panicking. So I watched this video. I had difficulty determining the differences, but the moment you said that the 08 code was authentic while the 09 was fake, I looked and saw an 09. Well dang. It looks like I just purchased one of the best fakes I've ever scene. The sticker looks flawless, so I assume that they use an authentic sticker onto the cartridge. The arrow is engraved, the pins are slightly off centered, so slightly that I didn't see it on the pictures, and the Nintendo branding and the patent number are taller. Most fakes these days don't even bother trying and they just claim that's reproduction cart. I'm at a disadvantage because I purchase a European copy of a video game. By comparing to the other two European games that have, the one I own is the only one that's different in shell. I'm now hoping it's just a re-case. To add insult to injury, there was a save inside the game. Either to make it more authentic or the previous owner didn't know that they had a fake copy.

Not going to mention that the card chip itself starts with a 13 in white on the bottom back side? Big tell tale of it being a fake cartridge. Also, bust the fake one open, there’s probably a crappy black circle on the board, it’s a cheap way of running power through it.

Hey, thanks for the video. There's one point I want to clarify and a couple new point I think you missed (hopefully I didn't just miss them while listening to the video). 1. The cartridge color should be a dark gray (for US versions, not sure about other regions), lots of repros can't get the color right so the cartridge ends up either being a light gray or closer to black. 2. You mentioned the game serial on the back of the cartridge should end in "08" which makes it legit. This is not entirely true, and this is a difficult portion of the serial to compare for authenticity. You should look at the middle of the game ID on the front (CPUE in this case, which this is also a region-specific code) and the serial should start with this on the back. The problem with looking at the end of the code is that this can change based on cartridge revision and manufacture location. You *can* use it for checking authenticity but unless you're Nintendo or have amassed a list of known legit serials for a game. 3. The label itself. You did go over authenticity of the label printing but I didn't hear you mention that the label itself should be glossy. Especially lazy repros don't reflect the light and this is pretty easy to spot when you have the physical cartridge with you (harder to see in sale listings though). Using this as an authenticity metric makes things easier for those of us who are partially or fully colorblind, and can't easily tell the difference between saturation levels. --- In the case of your copies I'm actually finding the opposite for the serials - I'm not finding the J08 serial (your authentic copy) mentioned anywhere but the J09 (your counterfeit copy) seems accepted as a legit serial. My copy is authentic and ends in J13, and others elsewhere say J22 is legit as well. While it's possible that your authentic copy is a very well done repro, I think it's more likely that this is just a serial no one has been asking about considering the rest of the cartridge looks to be on point.
@justicerevenge3 жыл бұрын
I also have a J13 cartridge. my heart stopped when he said the code has to match the J08 code. My copy checked every other box up till that point. I bought it for 40 bucks in 2014 with the game case.

Crap, I found yesterday at my local game store that my copy of Soul silver was counterfeit. And I got it last year for Christmas. And I paid $110 for it. *sighs* it plays and it hasn’t crashed since I got it, and I made sure to make a new game file, and transferring Pokémon wasn’t an issue for it either. Damn, now I’m paranoid that my Platinum version is not real

Its easy to tell with all the guides like this. There hasnt really been any good fake that can make the nintendo on the back the same. The o is an rectangle/square (never a circle) and printed over the cart. These people scamming knows how to put the real game inside and ruin others chances of selling it again.

yes, look at the very top of the cartridge, if theres like a groove in the middle (kinda like this -=-) its probably real, if its completely smooth/looks like it was glued together its fake.

I just got duped recently and this helped me alot. I don't think the store that sold it to me was fake (never pushed or pressured me to buy it) but this copy was a REALLY good fake (around reason why I don't think it was purpose). I was able to identify it most because of the text near the pins. All real copies I have seen say D1/i (just like the real one in this video). Check that!

One Way I use is to try transfer pokemon from the game to pokemon B/W or B2/W2. my pokemon diamond cartridge can and so can my platinum cartridge. But my "Heartgold" one couldn't. However, I suspect the pokemon platinum game to be fake.
