I've owned a bunch of rv trailers and 5th wheels. the number one problem is that OSB wafer board floor. it may be one continuous piece , but it's JUNK. If you don't have a good strong solid floor , you've got a piece of crap. It's cheap to install and doesn't last. any moisture will ruin it. you can't replace it, it's cheaper to get another trailer. if it isn't good water resistant plywood, KEEP LOOKING. The rest is just cosmetics. It's what makes the trailer. THE FOUNDATION. gotta be solid. ALSo, my preference., aluminum studs and ceiling rafters. They don't rot and are fairly easy to repair. my two cents....

Mait, thank you for producing this RV walk-though. Great tips... Especially starting with "Top-Down" check from the outside. Obviously, a quick peek inside and out to make sure it has cabinets and wheels. lol. But after that, detailed inspection. A lot of RVs have been damaged by hurricanes and floods of recent. They are "flooding" the market on the used RV side.

I had a older 1998 Imperial 5th wheel warning for all 5th wheels built in this time frame I had a dometic refrigerator that had Ice build up in the freezer and one time I let the Ice get too big to where the freezer door would not shut and a fire started in the back of my refrigerator and it was too late it also happened in the end of the winter time so when I tried to put the fire out it was too late all my hoses where frozen. So to all that have the older models make sure your doors are closed all the way so this does not happen to you . also if fire starts unplug your electric first thing that way the fire won't spread when water hits the burning area..

Really have to check the trailer manufacture and problems with even new units.I bought brand new and had roof leak first trip out after real heavy rain.Returned for warranty work and lawyers fight it out for selling defective unit.Year later picked up "repaired" trailer, never again buying a Keystone.Had better luck with Jayco`s used travel trailers that had been a couple years old.Check out electrical circuit breaker boxes and up grade those to new ones and split the circuits instead of the double lugging those which seem to be common to do. Its cheaper than a bigger C/B panel

Never trust the dealer to inspect the trailer for you. Get a 3rd party inspection or inspect it for yourself

Agreed. I think the easiest way to spot a lemon is to find out the name of the parent company, look up the list of RV manufacturers on Wikipedia, and if they’re listed, chances are high you’ll get a lemon. The exceptions are so few that they’re hardly worth mentioning. The other way you know you’re likely getting a lemon is if it has certifications like RVIA next to the door.
