Yes from what I’m seeing there’s a lot of people spending almost $200 on fake’s because they are looking for a good deal.. and then they complain and say that RE aren’t good quality 🥲

I've bought a few used pairs, but I only pick the ones with good photos. Sent 2 in for service and new lenses from Randolph and they look nearly brand new. I own about 10 pairs of Randolphs and mostly buy direct from them. Good customer service
@ShadeReview Жыл бұрын
Yes it’s crazy there level of support send an old pair for there $15 tuneup service and they come back almost brand new. Especially if you have them put brand new lenses in!
@didamnesia3575 Жыл бұрын
@@ShadeReview yep, I had 2 pairs for service, one got the Cobalt lens and the other got the polarized AGX green. Frames were from the early 80s and they look perfect now. The 52mm fits me perfectly. I do wish they allowed more customization. Would have liked to be able to choose different colored lenses for some other pairs
@ickn2005 Жыл бұрын
This is exactly why I always order direct from the manufacture. But I also like to get my stuff engraved with my initials or 963Hz- sometimes both like my white gold AGXs. They were my fathers day gift to myself.

I bought two pairs of Randolph matte chrome frames-only glasses many years ago when Randolph also sold their frames to be used for prescription glasses. I have both the Aviator and Concorde style frames that I had Costco add prescription no-line bifocal plastic lenses that were color dyed to function as sunglasses. They have been great. The Randolph frames for prescription glasses came with the skull temples while the finished Randolph sunglasses frames come only with bayonet temples. Otherwise the frames were the same. My Randolph frames with plastic lenses are far lighter in weight than the Randolph glass lenses which makes them very comfortable. Somewhere along the line Randolph ceased selling frames only as they have not shown on the Randolph website in years. I'm glad I was able to score two Randolph frames-only back in the day for making my lightweight prescription sunglasses .

OMG, my heat dropped when you went to bend the Randolph's. I can see the strength difference and the quality for sure, but R.I.P. to them anyway.

I went ahead and did it- knowingly bought some knock off Aviator and Concordes- here is my wall of text: I have several pairs of Randolph aviators and a concorde, and I had to see it myself on how good or bad the Amazon aviators and concordes are- I received 2 Amazon aviators and 1 Concorde (general) frame- and basically a bunch of small quality issues with the soldering on the frames leads to the frame being slightly off and bent as soon as you remove them from the box. You can't bend it back, so one lens will typically always have a little more rake than the other lens on the front orbitals- despite the frame looking flat on a table. Also there is no depth to the frame or lens at all - they are pretty flat compared to the real brands. Probably because they don't have the Randolph or American Optical frame jigs - so whoever is doing these knockoffs didn't even bother to buy a real pair to make a jig from and they definitely aren't accounting for the metal becoming constrained after the frame parts are soldered together. 55 mm frame is more like 56 or 57 mm. The nose pad metal mounts weren't even aligned on one of the frames so it was on you to bend the pad mounts to get the frame to sit straight on your face. The finish also has issues- these are dipped, and not plated or powder coated like the real thing- so the stems and frame is a tad thicker, and you don't get that line definition on the ear stem. The bayonettes also aren't even close - the inserts are off center, so the bayonettes will be higher or lower on the stem instead of perfectly centered. On the aviators, they are only using 1 screw for the lens and the stem rather than 2 screws. Also, the lenses are pretty basic- which would be expected for the price. I ended up returning them because I didn't even want to use them as throw around glasses. If they were good knockoffs with some actual depth, I probably would have kept them. All that said - when you spend $200-$300 for a pair of Randolphs or American Opticals - you are paying for all that detail for the frame and lens to be made correctly the first time, and with a good finish- and that's what you get. I was also upset over the marketing pictures- they clearly made it seem like you were going to get an unbranded Randolph or AO, with frames that sit nicely on the face and have a touch of depth- but these were just trash out of the box despite being well protected and packaged. But for $20 for a pair of knockoffs, maybe it's ok for some folks that don't know they are bad knockoffs- these were just bad. Returned!

My husband has a pair of 20 year old Randolph’s. Is there any real functional changes in Randolph’s frames since then that would make it worth getting new ones (he got new lenses from them a few years ago), so durability, lighter weight, balance, ear or nose pads?
@darrellwhite302 Жыл бұрын
@@bdeneris The frames themselves have always been the same quality throughout the years, going all the way back. The only major differences are the nose pads and lenses. The early ones had crimp on nose pads, but these go way back in years. The crimp on nose pads tend to be a harder type material, and not soft and sticky like modern silicone push in type nose pads. The nice modern push in nose pads have been in use for 20+ years, as best as I know. For the lenses, the newer lenses, starting in about 2019, have an Anti-Reflective coating on the face side of the lenses. You can tell by looking at them if they have a blueish or purpleish reflection, again, only on the face side of the lens. These are a huge improvement over the non AR coated lenses. One very minor difference between old and new frames is the bridge spacing. Old versions are a true 20mm bridge, but newer ones are about 18.5 or 19mm. Just a minor change for some reason, even though they are still labeled as 20. I've got a bunch of new and vintage ones going back to the 70's, and they are all top notch quality.

I'm actually going to give a pair of those $8 unbranded aviators a check. Curious to see whether the optics, the materials and finish, and build are good at all or whether they are cheesy.

I gotta say man... I'm a Die Hard & AVID fan of the Legit Randolph Engineering Shades! With the MAJOR emphasis on the word "LEGIT"... 😎💪👊🤌 And just like YOU, I fucking HATE & despise the FAKE-ass horseshit so-called "Randolphs" out there---with a passion! They TRULY disgust me to the MAX & annoy me to the FULLEST! 👎 So yeah... The TRUE & REAL ones are way MORE expensive! But they ALWAYS last a Lifetime, are INFINTELY higher quality and you definitely get what you pay for! 😎💪⚔️
