it would have been much more helpful to have the individual Luxottica brands put into the relevant tiers rather than just lump them together. Are you saying they're all just meh? below meh?? e.g. I've had several Rayban sunglasses in the past and noticed a significant change in quality when I bought some Persol ones. Also, as others have commented, a rough price for each would be more helpful and perhaps clarify some of the reason for your grading.

They're phenomenal and beat out masanaga, which Robert loves, in quality imo. Eyevan 7285 or Eyevan 10 is probably the pinnacle of non-bespoke eyewear under 1k imo and matsuda has insane filligree on every frame. It's what you'd expect out of Chrome hearts but at half the price.

I brought it up last time and I'll bring it up again, leisure society, despite being stupid expensive, is probably the best out there for frame + lens quality. Ive never had oem lens that are anti-reflective but have none of the ar glisten and its actually insane, and they've been doing gold plated lenses with meye precious for quite a while. This is also not even mentioning that the acetate frames are competitively prices and the titanium frames are like nothing else since its carved out of a block. As far as other brands you should check out, native sons and the other brands that tommy o'gara is involved with are a great mid-point between something like masunaga and ahlem. VioRou is also japanese but its got a very french look while using titanium over stainless steel like most european countries. Andy Brook is also something that got on my radar that you might like. They were only $150, have ar-coated lenses, made in france, great acetate and pretty classic silhouettes. Also, have you had any experiences with linda farrow or thierry lasry? They're the closest to Dita in size as far as indy brands go and theyre quite nice.

I have asked this question earlier to Robert . Hope he will answear and I hope this does not boder you! Im can not spend more then 100-150 dollars/euros on a pair of sunglasses. I have been wearing Polaroids untill now . I have always had the feeling that my eyes are getting tired a bit sooner when i wore the sunglasses. Now i understand how important is the quality of the lenses. Unfortuynately , almost all the places that sales the shades dont state the type of lenses or their quality. From what i have seen on internet i have set my eyes on Serengetti brand in that price range. Can you tell me some other brands that have a good range of shapes ,sizes and a good quality for the lenses in that 100-150 price range. Thank you in advance for your help!
@pmwaffle9348
@pmwaffle9348 6 ай бұрын
@borsh2002 serengeti like you said and vuarnet are imo the best lenses in that price range. Maui jim is pretty good if you can find a sale, ray-ban, as questionable as the quality can be, have good lenses if you find a pair with glass lenses. Lots of local French brands also hit that price/quality ratio but that requires you to live near France since they only sell locally but, lesca which is around the $200 price point offers glass lenses and is very nice. Akila and Gast are great options if frame quality is a priority for you. Also, if you can find a sale or are open to second hand frames, leisure society like I mentioned earlier is a great buy. Salt also uses cr-39 lenses that somehow trump most glass lenses like leisure society and if you can find a sale it's a great buy. Lastly, if you find a masanaga sunglasses on sale or a frame with precious metal coating on the lenses or second-hand, they will have glass lenses as well. Obviously all this varies based on where you live and if you're OK with lightly used or not but the first two options + lesca if you can stretch a little or Maui jim if you have a costco near you are your best options.

I understand your dislike for Luxottica, but it can be considered ignorance to place Persol under the same umbrella. Despite being acquired by Luxottica in 1995 Persol sunglasses are still handmade in its historic factory in Lauriano, Italy. What concerns the quality, the Persol frames are unique among others because of the exclusive technology used, like Meflecto, Victor flex etc. Persol is one of the oldest eyewear companies in the world responsible for some of the greatest innovations in lensing and comfort. It would've been more acceptable to witness a little bit of more objectivity.

I agree with you.. Persol is synonymous with quality. This trend of evaluating brands with negative opinions only because they are under the Luxottica group seems rather stupid to me.. In addition you must always consider the cost of the glasses, you cannot criticize a brand for the fact that it has a construction not the height of one that costs three or four times as much..

Hard to beat Zeiss in this. Even with regards medical use of lenses for Lasik medical lasers. Unless someone can find a great comparable Japanese lens manufacturers.

I understand the luxotica tier but I would like to see those brands put into an actual tier so we can compare because if you see this tier list without context then you wouldn’t know that some brands in that list still make some great products…. But a down vote due to the company that owns them is kinda cheeky… that being said after watching this video I really need a pair of Masunaga and L’écurie, beautiful glasses

This guy definitely knows his stuff! Quite an expert for sure...very informative, All nice glasses, but for the average person that either breaks, loses or has a pair stolen probably every summer one way or another, wayyy too expensive for the the people not in the millionaire's club wearing Mayback & Cartier Frames lol...we're lucky to "maybe" have acquired a Rolex Submariner in our 40's, I wear Oakley's and most people I talk to won't even come close to spending the money for a pair of them, I've had the same pair for 20 years, replaced the Lenses once, and the rubber components once, and just recently my mother gave me her pair (Wire Tap 2.0) and I found a set of Flak Beta's that both fit my narrow face just right, I would look like a space cadet wearing 95% of the frames in this video, they all look like over-sized woman's frames to me 🤷‍♂️

It’s sad that as soon as a frame is Luxxotica you decide to just plop it into the last category rather than parsing it as an expert. Not all Luxoticas are made the same, and while I know none of them should be in Perfection or Amazing, I’m sure one or two can be in Meh or even Ok. Persol is one of those that I think you were unfair to, they’re definitely made better than the typical Luxotica junk. I still haven’t seen you deal with RayBan yet, but I hope you don’t just plop it in the last category, that’s their flagship and I’d be interested for your reasons why it might be better or worse. Please in the future parse out Luxotica better, that’s why we watch you, for an honest opinion.

I agree with you.. Evaluating brands with negative opinions only because they are under the Luxottica group seems rather stupid to me.. In addition, you always have to consider the cost of the glasses, you can't think that a brand that sells glasses at a certain price is criticized for the fact that it has a construction not the height of one that costs three or four times as much..

From the first time I laid my eyes on a JMM frame I knew it spoke high quality to me. I wear and enjoy nothing but high quality. As soon as I put on a pair of JMM for the first time I knew they were cemented for me as my favorite. 7 pairs later the attraction is still there. The attention to detail and the way they stand out on my huge head just makes me feel complete. When someone else who has a pair catches mine it feels like a cult of the know. I get questions and compliments all the time on all of my frames. They are just on another level for me.

Whatever happened with the REVO brand? I owned a couple of their sunglasses many years ago. Simply loved the REVO lens quality and color, and when the frames broke, I wanted to buy replacement sunglasses but could not find REVO anywhere. I have tried (in vain) to find alternate sunglasses with the same amazing lens attributes as REVO but have had no luck. Unfortunately. Quite discouraging.
