Thats low miles for the year but pretty high miles for a jeep. Might be time to trade it up. You prolly won’t get many more miles out of the engine, it being a jeep, and Id be willing to bet that you prolly need struts, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, control arm bushings, sway bar links maybe even new motor and tranny mounts with that extremely high mileage. If the dealer even gives a hint of fear or tries to talk his sale into your soul with bs after you mention it, abort, unless he gives a good deal. Generally, what I don't see online is the fact that most dealers, their main goal is double their money on the blue book price. So if the car is 14,000, they most likely bought it for 7,000. Doesn't mean you can low ball them, unless you absolutely know what you're talking about. Insulting a dealer won't get you that car, you want a dealer to respect your knowledge and candor

I’m a lady looking to buy a decent used car. Every single day I see a car that I strongly suspect has been rolled back. People flipping cars will routinely replace the brake pedals for newer ones to throw u off the scent of a scam. Never buy a used car without having it inspected by a good mechanic. PAY for this service. If the seller won’t let u take the car to a proper mechanic at a garage then pay a mechanic to examine the car at the seller’s place. If a seller doesn’t want a mechanic inspecting his car then leave - you just got a free answer as to if the car has real problems. This goes for small car lots AND dealerships, unfortunately.

There's also crooks that install switches on their car to turn off\on their ODO, especially if it is a lease (to avoid paying lease overage miles). Just bought a 2012 CRV with 133K and am trying to figure if it has original miles. I may take it to an expert.

How about a mandatory 5 to)7 years in prison for this crime. Believe me anyone considering tampering with the odometer would think twice or perhaps thrice.

Those clusters they showed where early 2000s gm truck clusters. It is extremely common for those to mess up and need rebuild or replacement. I’ve redone mine twice in the 9 years I’ve had it. Often people will get one from a junkyard to replace it and that will show a different mileage. Is that fraud or repair? I rebuilt mine so it says the correct mileage but I wouldn’t call it fraud for someone to replace their gauge cluster with one that shows a different mileage. Some of those alleged 34k odometer frauds are BS. That jag is not a super rare or super expensive collector car to want to lie about mileage on a car that he sold for 5000.00 .I bet the speedo/odometer took a shit at xxx,xxx miles so the guy replaced it. If these are the serious problems Denver news reports I think I need to move there.
@dv20332 жыл бұрын
Na it isn't fraud to change your cluster. It's fraud to change it, have it reading less miles and sell it to someone.

You do realise that rubber cover of pedals are the easiest to be replaced with new ones. Steering wheel can do . Look all over the car to gauge the wear and tear. Under the hood and under the car and inside interior .

Its so easy to find a new looking steering wheel from a junkyard.

According to my scan tool the last three vehicles I own have had miles rolled back average of 70000 miles!

It's an XJS. They were terrible when they had 42 miles on them. Let alone 142k miles on them. They were forever in the shop for service.

Problem in many states is the dmv applies EXEMPT for mileage on certain age vehicles. There's not much of a way ypu can find it

checking the steering wheel and brake petal? that doesn't tell you anything!

I will see a scam when the car has no maintenance history book, the VIN can't be tracked by the dealership and if there was no database that tracks the vehicles' mileage.

I bought 2005 toyota sienna xle limited awd today for $4800 with 133k miles on it. I got home went through the old receipts in glove box it shows oil change at 210k miles last year!! Oh wtfffffffff. I was pissd. Im not sure the second owner knows about it or not. But car runs well tho.😢😢😢 I can always swap used engine w low mileage later.. I couldn't decide to ask for my money back or not😢
@analyticalhabitrails985711 ай бұрын
You better get your money back!!!!!!!! You want 133,000 miles, but got the real readings at over 200,000 miles on it!! You paid $4,800 dollars for a 133,000 mile toyota sienna, not a 210,000 mile the engine!!!!!!

That jag probably had a 5 digit odometer which means after it hits 99k you can’t tell if it’s under or over 100k miles without being the original owner or having a car fax in which that would not be fraud nor the guys fault who sold it to you

They are trying to make you think you can catch this but you cannot, if they block the mileage from being recorded in the first place, there will be no rollback or discrepancy. We are all absolutely helpless.
@johnjordan4726 Жыл бұрын
On BMWs they have a dot next to the mileage to indicate tampering. Not sure if other cars have something like that though.

I feel so played I bought a 1999 gs 300 and the odo says 129k but on the Lexus dealer ship 2 years ago when it got serviced it had 208k so know 2 years later when I bought the car it should have well over 300k I’m so mad and feel robbed

Buy from a reputable dealer.... if your seller is a “mechanic” and he’s fixed up the car... chances are he has done this!!! Or take it to the makes dealership for inspection... do not give into high pressure sales... they are trying to use their ‘good deal’ as a psych tactic

😂😂😂 dealership is the main ones be rolling back odometers
@TheBlackbird6002 жыл бұрын
Another way to find odometer tampering is to check the average miles the car has run per year and year the tyres are manufactured and calculate the miles. We can get a ballpark figure. A sedan runs about 30000 kilometres per year. Its a matter of simple maths.
