Thanks for the great tip on spray blocking. I just completed 17 baby blankets over the summer, and ready to block them for delivery to a daycare centre. I always pinned & then sprayed, but your way of spraying first then pinning makes so much more sense. Thanks for the tip.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but your shawl colors match the towel you are blocking it on perfectly! Quite beautiful colors I must say :o)

Thanks so much! I've been crocheting for about a year, but hadn't considered spraying, nor did I know about wedding pins. The pins I have right now are slightly larger, so I'll be on the lookout for the kind you use. I learned a lot watching this. Thanks again. And the shawl is beautiful.

Claire, would love to hear some of your responses to the questions that were posed after you shared this "blocking" video. I think the questions are pretty valid and I want to know the answers to these questions... (i.e.: "one blocked, always blocked?" "would using a blow dryer work...", etc. etc.) Looking forward to the answer to these questions and to more videos from you.

I like the spray blocking for doing smaller things, like my granny squares.
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 6 жыл бұрын
yes spray blocking is great for smaller projects. larger projects are usually easier when you wash them and then just pin them to dry

Good tutorial! Thanks! I've never blocked anything. But I can see how it brings out the beauty of the stitchwork so much more. When the project is eventually washed, does it revert to a pre-blocked appearance?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare Жыл бұрын
The initial blocking helps to release the stitches and helps them settle to where they need to be. It may need to be lightly blocked after every wash but not as much.

Hi it's your number one pest again I saw your other video on spray blocking. Never blocked one till now to afraid and not enough room at home. The only place would be at university where my husband is a professor but he would have to take me. So I compromised. I hope it works. I bought yoga mats lay them side by side bought restless dressmaker pins put some towels down underneath and put the yoga mats on the bed blocking mats from kid store so expensive hardware store has about the same material as yoga mat maybe a little different the mats for 2 were less than $20.00. Makes a pretty big shawl. I sprayed with water bottle I guess we'll sleep in the living room a day or so. Will that work ok it was the only way I could fix a complex situation. Maybe I'm the first goof to come up with that?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 7 жыл бұрын
hi, you don't have to put the mats on a bed. you can just lay them on the floor somewhere out of the way and pic your shawl to them. you can also put your shawl straight on the towels as well.

Besides my question of once blocked aways blocked. If you don't have the space anywhere to leave it sit for 2 to 3 days, would taking a blow dryer and drying that way work? Since there are usually 2 settings on them.

Great tutorial Clare. I too am curious, if you block it when you complete the object, then later on as you wear it & wash it...do you have to block it every time you wash it for it to keep that shape as the original blocking? Thanks for all you do to help us learn!

I have a question I don't usually block my items I just wash them an let them air dry flat (of course I stretch the fabric out) but is that a ok way to I guess lazy way of blocking? I'm asking because I want to add a fabric to the back of my granny square blanket but the other video I watched they asked for blocking before I sew on the fabric please help me thanks thanks for the video
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 8 жыл бұрын
+Alicia Sloan Yes that is the lazy way of blocking :) But depending on what you make then that is fine, garments or hats usually don't need pinning down, if you have something with corners like a granny square, it is pinned to make the item look more defined in shape and to help the sides of the granny square look more square

I really liked your tutorial. It's very helpful and I will use it. I was thinking about how to block a triangular scarf but I think it is the same way, right? But if I wash it and than block it, it's the same thing right?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's the same way no matter the shape of the item your blocking. It will need to be blocked after every wash as well.
