With Rattle cans the top to bottom rule doesn't really matter because of the different solvents used in Aersol cans versus spray gun can, the Aerosol solvents fan out and evaporate within a couple of inches of the can.

(Ex-pro painter and former Autobody Shop owner here) You spray ONE area at a time. You don't leave and go back to the previously sprayed areas again, sloppily like he did. The two different paint times won't blend properly and will "overspray" (fog) that area up because the previouly sprayed areas will have already started to "set up.." In laymens terms, it takes wet paint to blend in with wet paint to keep the continuous shine/luster and dry times even.. Do a panel or area PROPERLY before moving on to other areas. I know he just wanted to do a fast video showing fan pattern coverage and speed of use, but to those who will try this, DO IT PROPERLY and follow my tips for your best results... And don't skimp on the paint, do at least two full coats with about 30min. in-between the second coat. This was wrong anyway because he needed to use a primer, a primer/sealer, or at least sealer by itself for covering up imperfections, panel protection, and to prevent the body work from "bleeding back through the paint," as we call it.. You could actually get a semi-decent budget paint job "if done CORRECTLY!"

I’m about to paint a camper you recommend painting the truck in areas ? Like paint the right side then the top then the left ?
@bravokilo1972
@bravokilo1972 2 жыл бұрын
@@The-bu5kv Paint the top first "if" it's the hardest to reach. The entire top... At least two coats. Not like in this video bouncing all over the place then having to go back to areas that weren't painted properly to begin with, LIKE HE DID.. That's not how you paint! Also by painting your camper top first, that will make painting the rest of the camper so much easier! And it will keep you from leaning into wet paint (on the sides of the camper) while you are trying to also paint the top of the camper at the same time. Too many things can go wrong, so just paint the top FIRST if it's up kinda high.. Tape off areas properly. Make sure the surface is smooth and completely dry before painting. The area should not be peeling or chipped. Lighty sand/scuff the areas of concern that are not ready to paint. Use a "primer" to cover any areas that you sanded down to the metal substrate while smoothing the body surface (to prevent rust), but try your best to prevent "sand-throughs" from happening at all so be gentle.. If using a primer, let the primer dry (usually takes a day) then lighty "scuff up" the primer (using a scuff pad or fine grit sandpaper) to make it smooth and ready to paint. Try to use some "tack cloth/rag" (if possible, found in most places rattle spray cans are found) to wipe over the surface and remove any dust or unseen debris before you spray for best results.. Thoroughly shake/mix the paint. Try to use a "charcoal" air filter (breathing apparatus), to filter the air that you will be breathing (if done in an enclosed space) as to not harm your health. Using "regular" rattle spray cans I would stay about 6-7 inches back from surface while spraying to prevent runs, pile ups, and uneveness of the paint, and for the best spray coverage. Be sure to use long stokes at a slow to medium pace. And most importantly, COMPLETELY cover the entire "REACHABLE AREA" before moving to the next REACHABLE AREA, or simply go Panel to Panel, meaning: roof, then fender, then door, then rear quarter panel, then trunk, etc.. Lastly, buy enough paint for at least TWO coats for longer lasting, better looking, and best protection from the UV rays of the sun that can quickly fade out "rattle can" paint jobs in NO TIME. Also using at least two coats of "clear" will greatly extended the life of the paint! Just take your TIME, do the PREP WORK, and follow at least half of what I've painstakingly written and it may not look like "I" did the paint job, but it should at least look half decent in the end haha... Good Luck and Happy Painting

I had a 1960 F-100 that had an extremely straight body except one spot on the bed end cap. After converting to 4X4, new engine, upgrade all running gear, total refurbished of interior, it was time for paint. One of the high schools housed the Vo-Tech school. A friend got me in because auto body shop needed the work. Took it down to show the instructor & he thought it was a good project. Made the one repair & got to it. Many hours of sanding by hand & priming. Blocked it out & was ready for paint. I brought 10 cases of Ford Blue & 5 cases of white. We painted the bottom blue & the top white. We all painted a zone & the instructor had a pro come in to paint the last 3 coats. Let it dry then shot the 5 cases of clear. The instructor was the inventor of a gun grip that clipped on the can for more control and a faster process. After using up 5 cases of clear, we let it set outside for 3 days in the heat. The instructor & a detail specialist did the final rub out. This 35 years ago & the truck still looks good for rattle cans. I keep it waxed for paint protection

The coverage on the hood was hard to watch. You should have not held at that angle. And you laid it on way to heavy. You need to start with a light tack coat, to give the top coat something grab onto. And when you do a heavy coat, the paint underneath never fully cures, and the paint flakes off

Years ago when we still had the shop we had a courier service that we serviced their fleet and we ended up buying one of their 95 Ford Aspires. It was white and my brother did a quick sanding job to get rid of the green letters. Then he hit it with this purple he had right over the scuffed up paint no primer. And this pretty dark purple he had, came out Barney purple. He was disgusted with it. I bought the little thing, I started looking the little thing over and it had some potential, I didn't know they made an SE version of the Ford aspire, 1.3 liter with a five speed, back seat stripped out to carry cargo. only weighs 1800 lb.So I called up to Napa had them send me down a case of fire engine red , a case of gloss black plus a case of clear, and why you're at it throw me in a couple rolls of masking tape and package of quadruple zero steel wool. The hood, bumpers,grill and back hatch went black, the body, the front fenders,roof and spoiler went red. I let it bake out in the sun for a few days, then I hit it with some clear, let that gas off and hit it with another coat of clear. I put 12 coats of clear on it. It looked like a completely different car when I was done. Then I took it apart, and put the 1.8 turbocharged engine out of the 92 escort GT that was totaled in the yard into it. A Go-Kart with a eggshell body.

Hey brother, no hate here but you are doing it wrong. Remember the basics of painting. Light coats. You are trying to lay heavy coats which leads to the blotchy lines, fish eyes galore, dry spots. Take your time and spray it like a normal gun. You will get the hang of it. 7 light coats will give better results than 1 heavy coat. But thanks for showing how much 1 can will cover. I'm a professional artist and I have painted cars with rattle cans for 30+ years now. Light coats bro. ✌❤

Well by the way that prep work looks i would say it doesnt really matter what you pit on there it is going to look like crap. Are you not seeing the aame blot hy stuff i am. It might not be terribly uneven but it is certainly slashing unevenly at least. The pattern it is leaving makes it look really bad my friend. Black is hard to paint though especially in a can oike this. I usually do a piss coat at first and get everything on the back corner and move foward. Then go back and realpy coat it after it flashes real quick like. I will then piss coat the front fender and then let flash and get that again real quick. Them the hood is the same, piss coat and let flash then go at it. Then fromt fender the samw way then move around until i am done. I pet that dry for about 20 minutes in a hot room with proper airflow amd likw 6 space heaters going and it is 105 degrees with fans going out the window. Then i really lay it on, i apray the final coat and it is a doosey. I lay it on thick and even. Start from the trunk and move around. I finaih on that back rear end and i get the heck out of there qith the heatera going and fans on. I come back the next day 25 hours later and i check how it dried and depending on how it is i wetsand if i have to and touch up then i spray a 2k clear on that bad boy and do it in 2 coats. Fieat i piss coat it everywhere in thr same way feom back to feont. Pias ciat the whole trunk evenpy bit jsut to tack it up amd then coat the help out of it to the point it is close to runing if i did any kore but far from actually running. You know that happy place. Then go around and tack coat then spray medium heavy then tack coat yhe next section then mediuk heavy and ao on and so on. Then i leave for 48 hours qith heat on and fans and qhen i come back i puck the trash put a bit and cut it in with a gentle 1500, then 3000, then cut her in qith a compund and finally polish it and i am done. It doeant fail me.

Thanks for the detailed process. All of that time and work would definitely increase the cost and difficulty/skill level required to pull off. This video is for the quick and easy "cover that car with paint" paint job. Not the prettiest but it looks a heck of a lot better than it did! Thanks again for watching. Cheers mate.

MAKE A CAN MIXER:..Take a 1 liter bottle and cut the top of it about 4 inches from the cap. Drill a hole big enough to put a long bolt and nut through the cap with the extra length of the bolt facing out of the top of the cap and glue the cap to the bottle. Then attach it to a power drill Put your spray can in the bottle with the cans cap one the outside of the bottle and grasp the cap will the drill spins the spray can in the pop bottle for 30 seconds...Once the drill stops you should hear the ball in the can spinning. you can also glue something on the side of the bottle to make it out of balance to make it shake and spin as well. You will never have to shake a can again and it only takes 30 seconds to completely mix the can.

Yeah my previous comment was towards trying to get a GOOD result like i have a thousand times from regular cans lol. But , i still prefer to "rent" a booth ; or call the buddy who works at one. I have air at home butvid rather pay to use a 1000gun than my own 200$ junk in my bsckyard WHEN POSSIBLE. My truck? Meh! Rattle me up scottie; but i still aim for pro results..rattle rattle

Damn I wanted to see the end results man …… that damn cam went far for the fan it had . How much is it and what’s the brand i paint for a living but not cars . I was thinking about hitting the work vehicle up with a rattle can or maybe an airless with a FFLP TIP FOR GOOD ATOMIZATION……… or maybe my hvlp …… not sure yet . Do you know a good paint product for automobiles that doesn’t require sanding the original paint ? Of course i know any paint that claims that if there is one will not hold up long but it’s a work vehicle and just trying to clean it up . But still want it to look damn near decent from all angles
