How To Spray Paint A Golf Shaft

Yea, I know this video is super long, but I call it value. About 3 years ago, I got into spray painting my wedge shafts. Eventually, I got pretty good at it. I made a ton of notes on what worked and what didn't. Now I can share it with all of you. Doing this right will take time and patience, but the results can be something beautiful with a finish that will last you for years to come.
Learn how to spray paint your golf shaft and never have a standard shaft every again.
Note: This process does not work on Graphite. I repeated, do not do this to your graphite shaft.

Just did this and the results are incredible. This video is underrated. Blacked out my shaft with matte black. I actually taped up the grip and club head and never removed the shaft, and it was still an incredible result. Thank you so much for this!!!!

I had time inside working from home with the whole pandemic thing, so I was working in my home office, and staring at the dust growing on my golf clubs. So I pulled them over to my desk and started polishing them. I also noticed the starter set sitting in a crappy bag in the recesses of the back of the room, and pulled them out as well. They were a starter set for my daughter when she discovered golf, and they were given to her by a friend of the family. I thought they were junk and as she loved the game so much, she asked if we could buy her a good set of clubs for her birthday. So the starter set just sad there collecting spider webs and dust. I pulled them out and they are nice as well, but it wasn't a full set, but just what my friend considered she would need for essentials. So I bought about 5 clubs and woods to complete the set, and the ones that people sell on EBay usually are good, but need a little tender loving care to get back to great. So I have been watching various videos and now I am hooked on DIY golf upgrading my stuff, and even went so far as buying used ones in the pawn shop to experiment and play around with fixing up. This is addictive, and I love these BuiltByMason videos!

I don't even pay attention but it is cool. The hardest thing is staying consistent. That's what I mainly focus on but trust me it's super hard when life gets in the way.

Spraymax 2k clear would be a much better choice and make that shaft VERY durable!

Since finding your channel I’ve followed your IG just to make sure I don’t miss anything. I just wanted to know if you’ve ever spray painted the club/iron heads before? Would it be any different? Keep up the good work.

I don't spray heads for a number of reason, you will have to go the plating route. Spray paint just not gonna hold up. Powder coat will look good for a couple of weeks then it won't anymore. The weight will also become a issue. With club building and customization everything affects something else.

Followed steps and putter shaft looks beautiful. Wondering which clear coat is best. Rust-oluem universal Clear durable topcoat DEAD FLAT or the Rust-Oleum 2X Matte Clear. The shaft is flat black. Any comments??

If you are worried about weight (not you Mason) just take your shafts to a local electro plating business and get the chrome stripped. Most places will only charge minimal $$$.
