Howdy Folks, This video will demonstrate How To Spray Paint Multicamesque Camouflage Patterns. Some of you may not have noticed, but I like the Multicam camouflage pattern, just a little bit... OKAY! I Admit It! I Have A Problem! I'm A Multicamoholic! Shortly after Crye Precision introduced the Multicam pattern (20 years ago) and I began to purchase Multicam patterned products, I started experimenting with duplicating this unique pattern. After multiple attempts, I believe I have achieved the ability to adequately reproduce a "Multicamesque" version with spray paint.
I will take the viewer step by step through the entire process of how I spray paint a "Multicamesque" camouflage pattern. I paint a Nalgene Water Bottle to demonstrate the process. However, this technique can be applied to any item you wish to camouflage.
The Paint I Used: If memory serves me correctly, the brand and colors are as follows... Krylon Cover Maxx Brown Boots/ Satin, Krylon Fusion Matt Spanish moss, Rustoleum Camouflage (colors are not named on the cans) Light Green, Dark Green, Dark Brown, And Buff/Tan (not the lightest, the lightest is too light).
If Multicam is not your "cup of tea", No Worries! The technique and process I demonstrate can be used to paint any pattern or color scheme you desire.

I like this idea of satin and ultra flat, but am curious whether you’ve shined a light on them after dark. As in tossing it somewhere outside and seeing whether a white light will reflect more dramatically off the satin finish and stand out or just be a normal reflection of the white light as the surrounding waxy vegetation? In other words, does it react the same to concentrated white light at night as it does to sunlight in the day? Thanks.
@allenseeallendo5844
@allenseeallendo5844 4 ай бұрын
@@chadlowery1098 The satin should break up light waves. So the same effect you get in the sun would be similar at night. The moon is just the reflection of the suns rays. A mix of blacks and dark greys flat and satin might be better at night.

Brilliant work Boondockery! Greetings from an old South African bush war veteran. Spray paint was used extensively to camouflage R1 7.62 FN rifles and other weapons and equipment, both in Rhodesian and the SADF units. In those days camo tape and the special cans of spray paint were not available in the region. Multicam did not exist then either. Later in the war the R4 rifle was brought out in a brown colour. Spray paint was extensively used by the special forces units.. These elements went to a great deal of effort to camouflage every item of team and personal equipment, as part of their philosophy of painstaking, detailed preparation. There is no quick fix to this effort, as some on this blog have alluded to. You have that detailed, analytical and solution oriented approach that made South African and Rhodesian special forces world leaders in their field at that time period in history.

Agree. Australian Army 1980s. We used to wrap our SLR in hessian( your R1 just made here in inch pattern ) khaki green isdue clothing kit webbing. We did what we wanted thought worked best. Hessian tie on scrim net spray paint grey tan browns. Tbh your bush is basically the same colours as here your SADF brown uniforms would have worked better here to. We went Auscam. Which was ok once it faded. New multicam in auscamish colours also I believe works better here faded. What is best is coyote and spray it up net it up Hessian in my opinion

Very well done! Effective application. A couple of notes from a professional painter, the 91% alcohol also removed mold release as well as dust. Secondly, the frog tape is formulated to repell water based paint. It will work on solvent based paint but so will the cheaper blue tape. In either case avoid the tape with ripples as any paint will bleed under the edges. Great plan on the order of color application.

@natew.-victoryorvalhalla4571
@natew.-victoryorvalhalla4571 6 ай бұрын
@theurbanartist775 put the tape down after spraying with your color you used first, then respray over the tape with the same color as is under the tape, then spray your new color over the top. The double shot of the same color(1 shot under and one over) prevents the new color from leaking under the tape. It acts a a sealant or super think laying of caulking. It's how you get crisp, sharp lines IF that's what you're looking for. But with camo, crisp lines can make it so you're more easily seen. But, if you just want a crisp clear pattern then use yet technique

Thank you Mark! Multicam Tropic is FANTASTIC for SE Ohio woods in the summer. I find the types of trees, foliage, undergrowth change dramatically as I move through the woods. Also the seasonal changes also change dramatically. So, that's why I run with Multicam (OCP/Scorpion/MTP). Mixing and matching patterns work pretty well. I have experimented with wearing Multicam equipment with ATCAS FG. That works out very well in the greener months and forests. I'm certain the same would be true with mixing Tropical MC With Standard MC. Good Luck with your water bottles! You can use the same technique and process I used to produce the Tropical MC, just replace the browns with a wide variety of greens. Thanks Again! Have a great day!

Thanks Brother! Yeah, those spray triggers really help with hand fatigue! I have "Rattle Can Multicamed" A Lot of large projects (in size and numerically) and that triggered grip saved me a lot of time and discomfort. Like I said in the video, you can use these techniques and processes to make any pattern you want. If you don't want to cut your own pattern mask, there are several companies that make stencils. I've cut my own when I did large projects but I don't think the results are as good as applying masks. There is a company called Freedom Stencils and they produce a HUGE range of pre-cut vinyl stencils ( I call them masks). If you want a project to turn out perfect, I'd recommend them. www.freedomstencils.com/collections/camouflage-stencils

If you wanna blend.. Use black paint with a sponge. And just do the edges of where colors meet.. Cut the sponges in different shapes if you wanna, theres plenty of tutorials out there. Sometimes I use colors that are way off in "partnership" . I use whatever I have left in my cans before I buy more paint. And I implement multiple techniques, to always get some weird strange patterns. Good vid! Love it!!!!!

Something I use on my rifles instead of masking tape is liquid dish soap. Obviously, you still want to mask off optic lenses, adjustment values and other sensitive areas... but I've found starting with a tan base coat, allowing it to dry, and then hitting the rifle with random stripes of dish liquid, and alternating brown and olive drab randomly gives me a decent pattern that blends in fairly well in all seasons. :]
@BuckFoeJiden
@BuckFoeJiden Жыл бұрын
The dish soap basically acts as masking tape. Once the paint dries, you can spray off the weapon with water and you're left with tan stripes underneath olive drab and brown splotches.

When I do mine I use a “folding bone” to help properly adhere the tape and my edges don’t peel. Also if you’ve time in your efforts letting each coating sit for fully 72 hours this will allow the tape to adhere better. Part of the reason you may get tape peeling is that the paint is still off gassing and literally pushing the tape off the surface. If you tape off your graduation scale before sanding this will allow you to sand right up to it with fear of over sanding.

As someone who paints daily I recommend degreasing the surface before sanding, this way you don't rub grease into the material. After sanding remove dust and degrease again this ensures the best possible condition for the paint to adhere to the surface.

@@longt.standing6607 From everything I have learned from boots on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, the natural dirt in the area of operation will subdue the pattern to suit your camouflage. Your plate carrier configuration will evolve with the time you operate. The key to your initial set up is think asymmetrical. We do things daily left handed or right handed. Apply that way of thinking to your carrier organization. Mission Specific is the key! Your drone equipment will be your primary weapon. Your secondary should be the one you are most proficient with, be it side arm or long. That organization will not be as extensive as an infantryman and should be viewed as a defensive, as appose to offensive mode of operation. Carry additional magazines in your cargo pockets and day pack. I will pray for you in this endeavor. If you know the Lord, Trust in him and spend time with him daily. He Will See You Through. If you do not know him, I would highly recommend you get acquainted ASAP. Oh man. That index of paint is $40 -Great video but I’d just as soon turn a few wraps of camouflage 2 inch gaffers tape and call it a day. Not to mention you can carry an alternate camo pattern in your go pack. For example: you move from woodland to sagebrush over dirt. Recovering the Nalgene is less than 3 minutes of re-wrapping the bottle. Nonetheless I appreciate your videos. This one is crafty but it’s a heckuva process.

Aaron, it is always a matter of personal desire and preference. For me, it started out as a quest to unravel the mystery of the pattern and to duplicate it the best I could. As I have painted many things with this pattern the act and process became enjoyable. I am OCD and spending the time I do to create something I am pleased with is both satisfying and therapeutic. I have looked into Hydro-dip and "skins", but I think I have come close enough with the cheap and readily available rattle can that I'm content and happy with the process and results. I have a question for you. Where can I purchase Multicam Tape? Not the stretchy stuff, but real tape? There are small pieces of kit I would happily use McTape (Multicam Tape, I like what I did there 😉)on. Please let me know. Thank you very much for commenting and watching the video, It's appreciated! Have a great evening!

Hallo John! Awesome job! Never seen a spraypaint DIY project turning out that well (compared to my past ones). The way you did it makes a good result, often there is much more to it then most people may think. I know camouflage is a widely spread subject, there`s alot to pay attention to. Ich bin schon gespannt was für spannende Projekte du noch mit uns teilen wirst! Auf jeden Fall ich hier und da noch etwas von dir abschauen 👍 Viele Grüße aus Deutschland, Torsten

I have a cnc laser and have recently cut out a Vietnam tiger stripe camo pattern to paint one of my rifles out of stencil vinyl. I’m just too scared to actually do it 😂 I know I need to just go for it, it’s just so hard for me to visualize the order of colors and stuff to get the look I want, this video really helped. Word to the wise: cutting vinyl with a laser creates chlorine gas which will turn into hydrochloric acid if mixed with water. VENT YOUR AREA WELL. Or, like a smart person, borrow someone’s Cricut and avoid tear-gassing yourself 😂. I’m impatient and own a chemical respirator so I just went ahead and did it. My laser is directly next to a window with a fan in it facing out, and I had a fan on my side pushing the smoke towards that fan. It was fine. There IS “laser safe” or PVC-free stencil vinyl which is actually just polyurethane and contains no PVC (the bad stuff that makes CS gas when burnt), but again, I’m impatient, and an idiot.

I watched your video tonight. About camouflaging a water bottle. Just some facts for you. The painter you're using especially the Rust-Oleum contains contains a solvent known as m e k, the solvent from hell. It is used to etch metal for priming aircraft. This chemical MEK and also Napa, are both carcinogens. They cause cancer quickly in the human body. Please solvents take years and years to release from the paint. The paint dries quickly but the solvent Still Remains for many many years. You don't believe me call the paint manufacturers. They will tell you no way is this used on food containers. It's up dude good luck I hope you don't get sued.

If doing cammie jammies, doing seasonal is a good idea because that basic wood land...can be seen a mile away with a back drop of brown and light tan dead brush. Snow also. Deer may not see bright orange but you are a living target wearing that crap may as well jump up and say "I'm over here...."

Very nice. I tried the soap method for masking yesterday and got even better results. For my taste of course. Due to the spill of the soap you get some trippy patterns. I just jumped in the process and was really impressed by my work to be honest. The randomness of the soap spill after you apply it adds an element thats hard to replicate if you are not really good at this i think:) tnx for the video

High Humidity is a plague when trying to use spray paint. If you aren't in a hurry, let each application dry over night until the project is complete. I do this when I'm painting something significant like a rifle stock. Each application has an opportunity to cure before the next coat is applied.
