I'd argue that the best automotive clearcoats in a can are the 2K versions. Either Spraymax or Eastwood. Also worth mentioning is that the 2K products are legit toxic, so use a respirator unlike what you see in the video.

1500 grit is too fine for sealing the primer - use 1000 grit (or 1200 at the ABSOLUTE finest) or the base colour may flake/peel off!! Some people won’t go any finer than 800 for wet sanding primer 😅 If OP is reading this, did you have any problems with flake/peeling months later? Cheers 🍻

Before primer I would just sand it with 600 max, then lay down the primer and sand the primer with 800 max. The higher you go on the grit the less adhesion there will be, especially if you use a cheap primer where the chemical adhesion is probably not as good as with an expensive one.

@@juanaguilar4111 wet sanding isn't really needed but it's prefer if you want a nice mirror look. Usually when using rattle can, paint doesn't lay as perfect which leads to something called "orange peel" finish. Wet sanding gets rid of the orange peel and gives it a a nice mirror look.

Sorry about your luck but without use of adhesion promoter, you loose a lot of flexibility needed on flexible plastic parts. You really should have used epoxy primer as well. The use of high grit (1500) sandpaper under the primer will smooth out the surface loosing even more tooth needed on this type of material. The things you did wrong WILL affect your paintjob. 1 yr and your paintjob will be lying on the garage floor.

@MP-in4or
@MP-in4or 4 жыл бұрын
So you forgot a very important item. It is not wise to straight up prime the bumper and paint the bumper by itself. The primer and paint are not flexible by themselves. Especially when temps change and the bumper bends. The paint will crack. It is critical that you use adhesive promoter that will help the paint and primer stick to flexible body parts. It will only be a matter of time when you paint starts to fall off because you did not use this. In addition you should sand the bumper with 320-400 before laying down primer. Primer has very big droplets. And the sand paper you use does not give enough teeth for the primer to grab. When painting the bumper you should use 600-800. That will give the pain enough teeth to grab and still give it a smooth finish. The paper you use does not give the paint enough teeth and will start to flake off.

It is good to know how the painting works are carried out. But it is not DIY(Do it yourself job) , need elaborate setup . It is completely professional automated painting in Car manufactures facility, The car companies not at all give helping hand for customers for carryout simple denting and painting works in their authorized service centers . Charging enormously for simple tinker and paint works .For the same front Bumper painting works authorized dealer charges Rs 5000/. I think car companies definitely not spending more than Rs 5000/ for painting whole new car at manufacturing. This is the big drawback in owning cars in cities . Every car manufacturer must have at least one automated body painting workshop in every major cities and offer denting and painting work at reasonable cost . It is possible , they may consider , If available it gave more sense of security in owning car .

I think you did a wonderful job. It’s looking great! I would only add an exhaust fan to this video and two 1K lights. The lights let you see what you’re doing better and they make the paint stick to the bumper better. And they dry it better. The exhaust fan is for the over spray and your health. Turn the fan at the right speed so it doesn’t pull too fast or too slow. The fan will be messed up with paint rather than your lungs. You did a fantastic job and you worked extremely hard. The outcome was fabulous!

This vid really helped me out! Your video gave me almost all the info I need. The only thing I wish you would have done is given more info up front on how many cans you need on average for bumpers and showed how you are sanding the bumper. Can I use a belt sander or is this by hand? If belt sander, what is recommend to keep it from tearing up the plastic? Also an example of "wet sanding" woulda been legit. Thanks for the post and the brand recommendation. You seem to know your shit. Keep posting! You just got a new subsciber

Don't use heat gun you want the paint to atomize to flow out droplets and you won't have to sand,

I don’t even know where to start with this .. if you are gonna make a how to video at least know what you are talking about and telling people .. 1 , mask , 2 , you were good with 400 grit sand paper to smoothen shouldn’t of used 1500 .. that’s to fine , the paint won’t bite .. your paint will chip off really easy because of that . Also you didn’t use 2k clear .. you also wouldn’t have streaking if you knew how to paint .. 50% over lap ..

Your vid is cool, but my 2 cents you should hold the can abit futher from the object you are painting, which will cause a more even spray and less paint streaks.
