The end result was amazing for a “Rattle Can “ paint job, however, I would love to know how many such cans were used in each process because in my opinion it probably would have been a lot cheaper to buy a pint of color and clear or just color enamel and do it with a small compressor, however, that is my opinion. The end result was an incredible matching and finished panel. Nice work, thank you.

Another thing you should have done differently is delay installing the nutserts until the end. They interfered with your sanding process.

Ah but then if something goes wrong at that point you're painting the panel again - scratch, doesn't seat properly, etc.. Doing it after it's been primed gives us room for error, as far as interference it only affected what is under the trim panel anyway.

How many cans of color and clear were needed for this tailgate?

With our spray out cards we used 1.5 cans of base, 1.5 cans of mid coat, and 2 cans of clear.

Did you treat the bare metal with anything?

Yes, it get's urethane primer over the bare metal and body work before getting to paint

Can I ask why did you put this video out??? Why would you paint 100% of the tailgate if 10% of it was damaged!!

Because it’s hard to match that 10% to the rest of the original tailgate paint. Easier to paint the entire area-all looks the same.

There's a couple reasons but the number 1 being there's not really a proper way to blend clear coat - especially on the middle of a flat panel without body lines. So the proper repair is painting the whole panel.
