That applies to both waterborne and solvent metallic paint, you can also change a solid color in some instances by applying it to wet or with too slow of a reducer..again both solvent and water.

@danhajak No, Canada (ontario). Maybe just the lighting, that color matches the OEM really good in the BASF line.

I was having some probs with fluttering, it's gone away lately. I found if I didn't crank the fluid tip really tight I'd have that problem..I'm due for a pair new guns, thanks for the advice tho brother!

when you make runs i think is that your adjustment on materiel is to heavy with water paint...... less paint equal no runs what you think ?

Was the bumper painted to? If not i would not recommend applying base to the lower quarter. This would help keep a factory butt match when you go to put the bumper back on. Also putting down a "wet bed" blending base clear HB055 would help the course metallic lay down more evenly and less noticeable. That way you wouldn't have to blend the base so far. Also which clear did you use? DC98? or DC5800?

Hi Justin Please what do you as blending coat (transparent) ? (the reference ?) Thanks

Is this bieng sprayed somewhere in America? Did you have any varients? The colour looks greyish blue on the quarter, and reddish on the door.

this water base your using for your water paint its like reducer , i mean do you mix it 1- 1 with the base , like u would do with the regular paint , and the clear does it change or you can use the same clear like you normally would with the basecoat
@sanchtech11 жыл бұрын
so do you have 3 mixes? The 100% blender to 60% base for the initial bed, then 100% blender to 100% base blend, and full 100% base for the last orientation coat? We have Onyx HD at our shop and have to fix a bad blend today.

He's using a devilbiss cvi most likely wit a 1.3 or 1.4 tip and the tekna is one of the best for waterborne

can I spray BASF 4200 clear over that base?
@Refinishnetwork6 жыл бұрын
Sure can, no warranty with Limco however.
@meticulousdetail51406 жыл бұрын
Refinish Network if i want warranty from manufacturer does it cover or what clear should i spray over Onyx HD please sir
@Refinishnetwork6 жыл бұрын
You would have to be certified by BASF for any job to be covered under warranty anyhow. You’d need to take the RM certification course and then be using RM products, Limco is a lower line clear that wouldn’t be covered. It is still a good clear and will look good and hold up well.

i guess teach an old dawg new tricks i'm confused about the new system why an air supplyed resporator if its water base i thought this was safer than the old solvent based paints understand the clear is still solvent based paints ive been away from this for 35 years so this is all new to me
@mspperformanceracing7398 жыл бұрын
Water based have other poisonous chemical in it when evaporation occurs....which are more dangerous compared to solvent based.
@rockdawg14678 жыл бұрын
that is bull they said that waterbased was suppoes to be safer than solvent based thats why all of the shops were mandated to change over this is all double talk i will stick with the sovent based...
@Carlosanddawn13 жыл бұрын
You use the same clear, as with solvent paints, the only difference is in your base coat. Not much too it

Envirobase blows it out of the water.

chris coffey nope , sorry. . I’ve repped R-M, Spies Hecker, DuPont both water and solvent systems for all and used Environase in UK while working there. The best system I’ve used is R-M, and mate I’m a qualified Technical trainer in Spies Hecker. Which means I can train paint reps from Paint companies themselves, and I have. R-M beats them all by far.

Graeme J same here bud. I was a PPG tech rep for 6 years until I decided to go back to painting. I didn’t have a good experience with RM. It may have been a few tough colors I was dealing with. All lines have them. Still today I’m an Envirobase painter and there’s a few things I wish was better but in my opinion what sets PPG above all the rest, in my opinion, is the variant deck. The RM rep wouldn’t let me use the deck. He wanted to camera shoot everything and it struggled with flake size and flop. To each his own brother. Good luck to you.
@GJ674 жыл бұрын
chris coffey spectros have changed a lot the last few years, the key with R-M / Glas is the variant deck. That’s where all the other paint systems have tried but not got 100% right. I liked the idea that you would go to the original colour chip the computer tells you , if that’s not close enough, you can pick out any one of the others along the colour spectrum range it’s in. So if it’s been painted before, and it’s say bluer, you can pick a bluer chip that matches better. It doesn’t matter what the car code is, it’s what’s on the panel. Plus, the L shade ground coats are awesome, same as Axaltas value shades. Try using them without the value shade and it’s pretty hard to achieve full coverage. But it works great. When Mazda’s 41V soul red originally came out, I got hit up by anyone and everyone asking me to paint it for them. Lazy painters , it’s an occupational hazard. 🤣It’s technically a candy. Mate , in one shop I used to call on, the younger painter refused to paint silvers, beiges, white pearls. White pearls are easier than silvers. The older painter did them. I bought a, Sprayless Scratch Repair business ( SSR ). 3 years ago now. I do miss painting but hated the prep work. Always did. Still do paint but no spraying involved. Yeah, I,loved the R-M , it’s all about the colour box, everyone’s pushed spectros full on but if they go down, and they do, ie; dropping the fucker LOL you’ve gotta use the chips. Plus , they actually are sprayed I’ve been to the factory in France while repping it in UK. Seen how they do it.
@GJ674 жыл бұрын
Hey, also, R-M have a solvent converter, ( sorry, been 10 years now forgot the name) that for doing engine bays, you don’t put in water reducer, you put in the solvent converter and it changes the water to, solvent . That’s awesome too. You don’t have to clear it as it’s chemical resistant.

Graeme J cool stuff man. I was a Glasurit sprayer 1999-2003. Loved it. I used it on the European jobs and Diamont on the others. Went back to PPG in 2005.
