Hello! Very interesting machine I'm do business in China for panel saw almost 20 year. I tell for my Chinese supplier: "Here in China I see just two machine working properly and it is WADKIN!" I found this machine about hundred years old and still working!!! Now this machine exposed in Lunjiao expo centre. Actually I think this brand is over, but I see you got machine yanger than hundred years))

After 15 years of messing around and thanks to your video I have finally got my robland panelsaw squared.

That’s great to hear!! I have a friend with a Robland and he’s reaching the end of his tether with it - really can’t get it square!

great methods shown. its so obvious when you see it done like that. i would love to see more insta stories but this really shows why they dont work for this kind of content. it gives me a headache, too jumpy and stop start. it is the reason i generally ignore all instagram stories with loads of small bits like that. almost unwatchable in most cases. great to see the saw working perfectly though

How to starighten the slide of the slide cutter and how to level right handed top , please tell me a little

great video as ever. Can you get the crosscut fence milled back square? I was thinking of an old slider with alu fences but that's put me off!
@Alastair_Freebird3 жыл бұрын
Yes you could do this and in fact I have been meaning to do it myself on our CNC machine but it hasn’t been enough of a priority to get around to it, as we’ve been able to cut square enough really

Thanks Alaistar Just in the process of doing this myself. Very helpful

Very useful video. I know it's a lot of effort and time to make these videos. I have a SCMI panelsaw, also second hand and also slightly out of square. I've been doing work arounds to square my cuts but your video gave me the confidence to get my manual out and try and square it. Woodworker from Buffalo, NY sends thanks!

Interesting. I’ve got an older scmi slider but not using cause of no dado capacity. But I’d love to hear about your scmi. Mine is a short stroke. I’m debating on outing in my shop.

Rob is an excellent panel saw engineer. That old Wadkin saw is beyond getting really accurate. It is too old and worn for cutting good panels.
@Alastair_Freebird4 ай бұрын
Yes that’s true. We rely on the CNC now for our accurate panel cuts
@petermartinpetermar3 жыл бұрын
Alastair I think long term you may have issues with that worn fence at the blade end. Maybe keep a small shim that drops into place handy. better still add add thin sacrificial fence up against the existing - packing out at the blade end. I cut virtually everything off the slider now with the rip fence only used for quick board rips or parallel cutting. Clamps are also a great help.
@Alastair_Freebird3 жыл бұрын
Thanks yes it does need solving; we’ve looked into getting a new fence, but we are holding off until we get the CNC machine because it’s quite possible that once we have that up and running we could save floor space by dispensing with the Panelsaw altogether (an reinstating my small Wadkin rip saw. I know opinions vary on the wisdom of this. It will entirely depend on how successfully we set up the whole workflow to maximise the use of CNC.

Awesome video!! This is a big help for me dialing in my first sliding saw! Now can you get him to show us the best way to dial in a planer/jointer ? 😅
@Alastair_Freebird2 жыл бұрын
We don’t even have a planer/jointer these days, but I do remember it being tricky when I had an old Wadkin one in the garage!

Thanks for the video. I am contemplating using an older scmi in my shop in addition to my cabinet saw. As the scmi doesn’t have a dado capacity. But I’m sure either way, it will need squaring. This was a great video. And I appreciate your quality as I’m building my channel slowly but it’s getting good attention. I hope to have a nice following like you soon. I’m in the United States.

Hey I did finally get a slider and totally love it. Man I am very happy to be using one after so many years. I just came across this video and thought I’d say hi. Hope your doing great.
@luapkirner53319 ай бұрын
I’d make a cut and then measure out a 3-4-5 triangle, and I mean a 3 foot, 4 foot, five foot (yes I’m in the US). See how far it’s out and then make adjustment and cut again. No five cut method needed.
@Alastair_Freebird8 ай бұрын
Makes sense. I feel that the five cut method sort of amplifies the precision though

Could the crosscut fence be removed and reversed, the aluminium profile looks symmetrical, the rivets for the tape could be drilled off and refitted on the other side. Nice channel, I've subbed .
@Alastair_Freebird3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! Possibly… but there would be a few issues including the scale which is fixed to it. Now that I’ve got a CNC machine I’ve been thinking of skimming the surface flat! But it hasn’t been enough of a priority to bother with yet
