@@MikeFarrington That's actually a highly non-vomitous suggestion, Mike. You're the rare dude with woodworking/carpentry skill married with the mechanical know-how to restore, tune and maintain your equipment. Cult Of Personality is a tour de force. Every member of Living Colour is a tremendous musician-Calhoun, Skillings, Glover and Reid. Part of the timelessness of the song is the nearly absurdly long guitar solo that spans the history of rock and roll in about a minute and innumerable finger adjustments. Of course lyrically it will always remain relevant. Great video, gotta go now and listen to Vivid again!

GREAT video with tips. Great for anyone with a cabinet level saw. I have a similar setup. I first started using the Excalibur sliding attachment maybe 25 years ago. I had it attached to a PM 66 for years, then added a Uni to it. But a couple years ago I replaced the 66 with an older Oliver (quite a bit heavier saw, running a 14" blade) I did most of the adjustments that you made, (though not the dust collection as the Oliver base is all cast iron and does have a decent dust port, but still table saws are not the best for dust collection) but I didn't adjust the table with the blade at a 45! That is pretty good tip there. I'm now going to play with that. thanks.

Mike, I love your set up. So freaking cool. When I do large items that need to be cainer like this, I like to shoot a laser level across the room, then take two pieces of plywood and make an upside down tea where I strike a line where the laser is at the highest point. Then I can just place the block anywhere I need and I can get everything leveled up. Now it’s time to go turn that song on.

Great content, non-vomitous! If I had dust collection AND a massive Board Room, I'd do something similar. For my 2.5-car garage/shop, I'd have to set my saws back to back... which would prevent me from giving into the temptation to saw something with BOTH saws at the same time. Also, the childish tray is a stellar idea, tbh. I love your tool/equipment content as much as your builds - I'd suggest a video on maintenance for compressors, nail guns, and the associated equipment because a pin nailer is one of those things that you wonder just how you functioned without one.

Mike, love the video,as always. You talking through your order of operations is actually really helpful for understanding the nuance of what you are doing, but also as education for the next time one of us are doing anything similar. You delve into details that other gloss over. I have NEVER seen, read, or heard of someone checking blade alignment when the blade is at 45 degrees. Not only did you show it, you explained why and how to fix misalignment in that plane. As a thank you I will pass along a song recommendation of my own. Well, more of a band/album recommendation. Check out King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I'd suggest Iron Lung as a song or the album Polygonwandaland to start. Just know that they are a powerhouse jam band with a deep catalog of different musical styles culminating in 25 albums since 2012. I hope you enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole.

have to say that having used that slider in the past and owning a full size slider there is no comparison, that being said it depends on what you're doing, I mostly cabinets so I am cutting full sheets all the time. but I do have a PM66 as well that is mostly used for hardwoods and normally has. a rip blade on it. Funny you mentioned NASA, I just bought a jointer that it turns out was originally made and sold to NASA, I thought that was pretty cool!

If you are building cabinets with 4x8 sheets, yes a full sized slider is the better bet. However, I have a CNC machine, so when I have a job with more than a couple sheets, thats my go to. So that really puts the slider in no mans land. Hence this experiment.

The blade should be as parallel as possible to the miter slot. Some say the fence should be toed away from the blade, I like to keep things as parallel as possible.

Living Colour was the opening act for the Stones at the Oakland Coliseum in 1989 during the Steel Wheels tour. I wasn't too impressed with LC (yes, I'm a Boomer) but Carlos Santana made an unannounced appearance and played a few songs which was very cool.

Music is personal. While I love that song and band, I totally realize why someone would not like them. Carlos is awesome too though.

I notice you always using your Lamello biscuit joiner, I’m in the market for either the Lamello or the Festool domino, what are your thoughts on how they compare, thanks
@MikeFarrington
@MikeFarrington 4 ай бұрын
Well I like the Lamello because it's faster and really designed for use with 3/4" material. I like the domino if the joint is narrow, like when building cabinet doors. If I could only have one, I would probably go with the domino. If I was on a budget, I would get a cheaper biscuit joiner and a router.

I always learn something new here. Do you know if your sanding blade thingy works on a sawstop?
@MikeFarrington
@MikeFarrington 5 ай бұрын
Yes it does, however, you should run in bypass mode, and confirm you can tilt 2 degrees towards the fence or plan to run the fence on the other side of the blade. Finally, if you saw does not tilt 2 degrees towards the fence, email me, I have a picture tutorial of a modification you can make to achieve the 2 degree tilt.

if some knows, is it possible to add a riving knife to the saw? my friend wants to sell me his unisaw, but i already own a delta contractor saw. im just worry about the material binding and knocking back. thanks in advance.

It is not possible to add a riving knife, but it is possible to add a splitter.

As far as your sanding disc goes, what if you have a safety sally saw?
@MikeFarrington
@MikeFarrington 5 ай бұрын
Run the saw in bypass mode. Also, confirm that your saw will tilt 2 degrees towards the fence, or plan to run the fence on the other side of the blade. If your saw doesn't not tilt towards the fence, I have a modification that can be done. Send me an email via my website for more info.

I noticed that you don't use a riving knife on any of your saws, can these not take them or do you just not like using them?
@MikeFarrington
@MikeFarrington 5 ай бұрын
The best I could do is add a splitter, which only work so good. If I ever were to buy a new saw, it would be fore the riving knife.

Great song recommendation, that song played everyday on the radio in the machine shop. I worked at in high school that 45° alignment. If that is out, could that be why anytime I have cut a 45° bevel it has never been accurate? I use a Beall tilt box. Note, not a pro, total amateur.

There are lots of reasons for a saw to not cut great. That could fix your problem, at a minimum it will eliminate a variable.
