How to Square up a Quilt Panel

Blocking a panel will make your panel square. Which means your quilt will be square! This week we block a panel and next time we will use the panel. Stay tuned for part two Nov 15.

Oh Laura where were you last week 😂...I brought a lovely Santa panel and had great fun quilting it and thought how beautiful it was until I went to hang it ...omg it was so crooked...I thought i had sewn the sleeve in wonky so unpicked and did it again..it wasn’t until I brought my rulers out I discovered how bad it was. So to cut a very long story short ..with a lot of effort i ended up having to cut into the beautiful frame to square it up. It wasn’t until I went to KZbin I found out you had to square the panel up BEFORE starting..and here I was thinking what a fun easy project it was going to be 😂🤣

I just made this quilt with this layer cake. Was my first one to sew small pieces on point. I used two packs and made mine 60 x90....took me three days but I finally got it done.

Great tips. One thing that annoys me the most with panels is that they are sometimes too close together with the 'extra' bits or smaller squares are and often there isn't enough fabric to have a 1/4" allowance.

You can always sew on a border if there is not much room in the panel.

@@Ronibearable Yes you can however often there isn't a 1/4" allowance on the panel or extra squares on the panel meaning you often end up stitching into the panel colour.

Thanks for this video. I have a 'wildlife' panel, that I will cut apart into 6 squares, each with a different animal. Is it better to 'block' the entire panel before cutting out the squares or cut the panel and 'block' each square individually?

when you are quilting a panel ,is it ok to quilt around the out lines of the picture on it? my grandma showed me to do it like that..or do you do it like a regular quilt as she called them? just curious if there is a right or wrong way...
