When I bought my 84 about a year and a half ago, I later found out that the floorboards were pretty rusty. Mainly because on the passenger side, the seals on the back of the kick panel had been allowed to rot, and were never replaced, so water was coming in through the HVAC port and soaking in the carpet, therefore rusting the floor pan. Both of my drains that you covered on your other video are clear and they were clear when I bought the truck.

So thus solves my mystery. Water “is“ meant to go into the outer rockers after all. I have been wondering about this for quite a while now. Just wanted to thank you for clearing that up for me!

I'm currently getting ready to do this to my 86 K10. The rocker on the passenger side is bubbling so I expect to find what you did on your C10. I was wondering, do you think it would be reasonable to fill or plug the space (hole) that lets the debri in on the firewall side? I figure it would still have ventilation from the rear. I noticed the back side rocker has an angle metal bend, blocking the crap from getting out of the rocker area. what a good design. and you have to figure, they made this basic design for decades. My corner was repaired by a shop previously with bondo only. Yes a real body shop. It failed in a few years. When I found out how they did the repair, I asked the shop why they didn't use metal. They responded that the corners couldn't be found. I can only go by what I'm told. I repaired it by cutting the rust, supporting with fiberglass and surface with bondo.. That part held up well. But I may have a support failing. I'm doing my final deep inspection in a couple days so the project can begin... Thanks for your vid, you give a lot of information.

I think the hole on the front lets it ventilate to dry faster???

Awesome job. That is pro work. What would you say you have time wise, into doing one side? I'm not a body guy, nor can I weld, so trying to get an idea of what it would take for a shop to do this.

If you notice that after your first coat of primer you need to go back and add more filler, do you need to sand the primer off? Tnx.
@FamilysGarage5 ай бұрын
No, just scuff it with 80 so the filler has something to grab onto😎

I’m in the same boat as you on my 85 C20. I’m gonna do a partial rocker replacement, cab corner skin, and floor patch. Is that the titanium easy flux 125? How are your windshield frames?

Yes, I think that’s the welder we have…couple of patches on this one in the window frame…

So you cut the first rocker in half and then had to get another one and do the full rocker and then inner rocker with extra metal was for part of the floor section on top
@FamilysGarage Жыл бұрын
Yes, I didn’t want to have a seam in the middle of the rocker. I ended up buying 16 gauge steel from Home Depot and making my own floor and inner kick panel patches… I have not edited that video yet😁
