How to Stabilize Your Shore with Erosion Control Fabric

How to stabilize a shoreline with biodegradable erosion control fabric is the focus of this video for contractors and landowners in Central Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. The video features jute fiber mesh, coconut coir fiber blanket, and aspen fiber blanket. Crow Wing SWCD, University of Minnesota Extension, Minnesota DNR, and Thirty Lakes Watershed District partnered to produce five instructional videos about shoreline best management practices. Funding provided by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources, through the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment.

This is very educational -- my favorite part of a bio-engineered living shoreline is how eco-friendly it is. We operate in nearly every state and love restoring banks! So glad there are other organizations out there focused on bettering the health & safety of lakes & ponds.

Very helpful video, thank you. At timestamp 0:42, did you mean to say "coconut fiber mesh is used on slopes greater than 30%?" I think you meant Juke fiber mesh, because later in the video you said that coconut coir fiber is used on slopes less than 30%. I want to make sure I understand correctly. Thanks!

You said you used "jute fiber mesh" at 0:29 but then you did not review it. At 1:51 you say to prepare the site by killing the existing vegetation. Why kill it off if you only want some plant life to grow there to stop the soil erosion?

He kills the existing vegetation to replace it with native plants that will help protected the soil from erosion.
