Great advice. I have very recently started playing again and my darts were terrible. I was unsure of stance, what darts I should use all manner of things. Added to those things was the fact that I am now a right leg amputee and have a prosthetic leg. This video has shown me exactly what I needed to help my stance. My darts are not much better yet, but I know I am on the right path. Thank you for the great advice because I was really disenchanted with my darts.

I have been practicing my dart game daily for a total of two months and I have actually come a long way to being kinda decent. About two weeks in from deciding I was going to do this experiment "just to see" if the "practice makes perfect" rule applied to darts, I started taking in all the available information I could (KZbin) to help improve my accuracy and consistency. Found out I am right hand-left eye dominant and that was why I was struggling to aim with my eyes- up to that point I was just going off excessive repetition and muscle memory to aim at the different parts of the board. I have since, played around with everything from foot stance, body angle with the board, playing side to side on the throw line, different anchor points for bringing the dart back before the throw(im an 🏹 archer to begin with), my finger grip on the dart, my wrist angle(I found the flight and accuracy of my darts is better if my hand is slightly cocked backed at the wrist with the heel of my palm and fingers straight pointing toward the board, more cupped around the dart rather than pinched) I've tried a couple different dart weights, barrel shapes, standard vs slim flights... Anything that might affect performance. I'm pretty decent and do my share of winning. However, whenever I play with/against my husband who stands 6'2" height I feel like it's completely unfair that the throw line is never adjusted to compensate for height variations. It seems that there is significantly more physical effort and skill required for someone standing at 5ft to aim with accuracy and consistency than someone standing 6ft tall WITH AN ADDITIONAL 4 inches of arm length. I'm developing whole new muscle groups while he is effortlessly dropping them into the board from what looks like less than a yard away. 🧐😫😜

I think I will always stand flat-footed (equal weight between my feet) but I am slowly finding ways to keep a solid foundation, good balance and give my arm enough room to throw as straight as possible. I'm getting there a little at a time. I am a determined shooter!

@9:25 the ol' saying in practice.."Those who can't do....teach." Not only did you hit something off target, but I noticed your form/follow through with your throw wasn't very good. But you did say a lot the correct things and gave solid advice. People always ask how I'm so consistent and why I can literally hit any target so accurately and consistently with ease. I tell them basically everything he said. I just tell them for me at least it's all about making your body as steady/planted as possible, follow through with your throw...like how you would shooting a basketball,swinging in baseball,golf..ect..following through has been proving in majority of sports in accuracy...and most importantly...I tell them to make sure their elbow is completely straight (this is what I seem to always focus on and think of as I'm throwing). I think most casual dart players don't understand that throwing with a straight elbow in one fluid motion(no flicking of the wrist as you release...that small flick can make you far from target by inches...it's extremely important in throwing accurately and making you in full control of putting the dart where you want it.

Please let me know if I understood correctly: does my hand between elbow and hand/fingers should be in vertical before throw and during the throw as well? I'm asking, because when I recorded my throw, I can see my hand is at an angle.
@DartsClass2 жыл бұрын
The more vertical your forearm is the better - that means you will be pulling the dart back straight, and following through straight, this should improve your consistency, especially on the trebles. When aiming at other parts on the board, your arm should stay the same, but a slight twist in your torso, or change of angle in your stance to line up the new target. This will mean every dart you throw should be very similar in your arm and it will stop you having to use your shoulder to propel the darts 👍🎯

I have to say, this is the best video on this topic I've seen. 1 thing, locking my knee is very uncomfortable (even after a few minutes) and gives me knee pain the next day. Should I just do a few minutes each day and build it up, or should I give up on locking my knee?
@DartsClass3 жыл бұрын
It will hurt your knee like heck to start with but you'll get used to it. After a long session of practice your knee and calf will ache a bit as youre putting a big percentage of your weight on it for a prolonged period of time 👍🎯
@zixxerlev3 жыл бұрын
The advice about locking the knee is already working for me, and I can feel the calf muscle working harder. Will take some getting used to, but I'm sold on the technique. Also (reading DartsNutz threads), I am refraining from any feint throws and from rolling the dart barrel in my fingers. This does indeed, give my eyes better focus and gives my brain the stillness it needs to make the throw happen. I am closer than ever to stacking darts. My biggest problem is trying to land the third dart the same as the first two. Just can't seem to change that trend 🙄🤬 Must be my own head - game? Thank you for making these videos and sharing your expertise. Subscribed! Cheers!!

I’ve always loved throwing for fun here and there, but now that I’m done with college football (and out of school), I’ve really enjoyed making it a sport to practice on my own. One question I was hoping you could help me with: As someone who is right handed, yet is blind in their right eye (but has perfect vision in their left eye), I’m not sure what the best positioning is for me. I’m sure that, even in my case, a lot of it will come down to what feels best/natural... but I was wondering if you could suggest a thing or two that you think, in theory, would be best for someone like me to consider (eg., which of those stances, what side to stand on, etc)? I understand if you can’t get to this message, thank you regardless! *Edit* - Just realized most of the dart videos I have saved to my “watch later” are from your channel haha... Thank you for watching Joseph. Glad you're taking up darts more seriously... There's so much room for growth of the game stateside! It would be best for you to probably take a more front on approach. This will mean that when you pull the dart back it will come towards the bridge of your nose / centre of your face rather than your right side that has no sight. If I were you I'd watch Simon whitlocks position. You may also want to reach out to Jamie Caven, a long time professional darts player who is also blind in one eye, he would be better placed to advise you and I'm sure he'd be happy to respond if you contacted him on twitter / his website. Do you have any superstitions with certain darts or colours? I can only use darts that are black or green or both,same with stems and flight colours,I won't use any that don't have black or green. My shirt is black and green too.

Never had any superstitions with my darts themselves, I used to buy multiple sets of flights and stems with the same spec but it different colours and just change them whenever one needed changing, often giving me a complete clashing set. Drives my teammates mad! I have loads of superstitions / habits I have to do on the day of a game or tournament etc though! Some of them are weird and wonderful!

That's one of my number 1 rules. Always play and practice in the same shoes or as close as possible. Hence why I have 4 pairs of New Balances!

Another great video with some really good tips. I’m definitely going to revisit my stance and body position to see if I can get that extra percent of consistency. On an unrelated note, off the back of one of your videos I got some of the Harrows Torpedoes and they are amazing. Definitely fly straighter than a more expensive set I had. Keep up the great work. 👍🎯

I adore MVG but I have always worried about the amount of pressure he puts on his knees/hips. I think he will pay for it in later life. Hope I am wrong. I always wonder how anyone can throw like that but it is about what is comfortable (to an extent) like you said. I know Vincent van der Voort has changed his stance to an in-between stance (like mine and yours) and he says it has helped his injuries. I don't have any pain when I throw and I think I can do it for years and I am not putting any strain on my body. I would always lean towards that angle when telling others how to stand. Yes you are slightly further away but no strain on the body is a big pay off if you ask me.
@DartsClass4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's such a strain on the body, you can see why some of the bigger lads who play have such joint problems!

@@DartsClass I'm 6'2 and over 20 stone, I don't think I could stand any other way to be honest. Another thing I was say is a raised oche. Even if it's just putting a dumbbell down or investing in a proper one, it will improve your game if you don't have to look at your stand every time. It improved mine a lot. Many pros insist on having them at exhibitions so they don't think about their stance as much.
@DartsClass4 жыл бұрын
It helps massively having a raised oche. I normally have one at home but haven't installed it again since I swapped the layout of my garage a few weeks ago
