Exactly! I’ve always thought that if you need to protect every thing about your business model, it’s probably not that strong. As you mentioned, there’s money for everyone so let’s all help each other succeed.

I did this back in 2014. I had 2 trucks n 1 owner opp. Then the trucks started needing too much repairs and also my drivers couldn’t run as much as I wanted them to. Then DOT came and gave me a big fine for log book violation. In 2017 I sold my old truck due to CARB. Then the owner opp left and my other truck got in a big accident. You can start up a business on your own but you need good people to grow your business. Something I didn’t have at the time. I’m planning to get my authority reinstated and do it all over again. This time with better trucks and drivers.

@@seds94 I’m still at it. Bought a 2018 last year but still can’t get insurance for some reason. I live in California Si the AB5 law forced owner opps to file for their own entity. I did just that. I got a new company but now I can’t find find insurance because the insurers know that I had a different company in the pass. Pretty dumb though. Old company wasn’t making profit so I shut it down it has nothing to do with my new company. I’m not giving up still here still trying.

I'm a software engineer and I branched out into haulage transport. I have two brand new trucks and one secondhand freightliner. Each truck brings a net revenue of $2500 per load after all costs. and I aim for four loads a month. The only employees I have are truck drivers. I'm trying to get asset finance for fifty extra trucks and trailers, hire a dispatcher, an operations manager and accountant. It's better to own your own trucks. My annual net income is $90,000 after all costs I need more money.

1 truck that you own and hire a driver will make you far more than hiring owner ops. 1 truck should make you about 80-140k a year depending on variables
@Gill22
@Gill22 2 жыл бұрын
True but revenue is not the only thing you should consider. With an owner operator there is very little risk and very little cost to get started. With a company driver there's a moderate amount of risk and a higher barrier to entry. I believe those that are new to the industry should start with owner operators and eventually include company drivers into the mix.
@Bb0yTaiOne

Great video, just curious though. Why wouldn’t you just buy more trucks and hire drivers. Along with more dispatchers for your own company. Instead of hiring other owner operators. Thanks!

Hey guys quick question. I’m not much passionate about truck driving. I don’t have my CDL or plan on driving trucks or making a career out of it. But I am a entrepreneur. My passion is real estate. But on my quest to wealth I want to build different businesses and streams of income and have been looking into the commercial truck business. What would your guys tske be on starting this business not as a driver but just to build up?

It’s definitely hard to build up as just an investor. I’m also doing real estate on the side but this is my main bread and butter.
@madperson713
@madperson713 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of us are entrepreneurs and looking into real estate. My personal advice , I’m no one special, is to get into trucking before real estate. It’s a mobile home that makes you more net revenue than any rental or flip would make you. Much faster capital accumulation and still able to liquidate or scale the business. A few people I know make $8,000-$15,000 net every month on their own single truck. Now multiply that for every truck you own.

I also would rather put the money into the truck, I'd like to open up something with my uncle whose head over 10 years of experience if I remember right for the same company almost. My aunt's been within the entire time and I'd like to include them both in on it he can help me truck she can dispatch.. the prophets will go back into the business, but they love to spend money even when they were broke. So I would honestly try to channel the urge to ball lol into the business as nicer trucks or getting the truck to look nice it shows and win awards and s*** in downtime.

You didn’t factor in insurance driver’s pay nor fuel. There is no way you can run a truck in $10k. Fuel is that alone. A new authority will cost another $2500-$4500 for insurance. You haven’t factored in maintenance one tore is $500-$900, oil change is $500, driver pay is .60-.85 per mile.
@Gill22
@Gill22 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t watched the video back yet but the $10K amount i’m referring to is net not gross. It takes into account all “COGS” related costs as well as ESGA costs. It just a rough estimate given to help aspiring owner ops/carrier understand the concept of scale and how to approach expansion in the trucking industry.

If you don't want the hassle of owning a piece of art, it's still possible to invest in artwork without taking possession of the physical asset. Art funds, which are structured much like other investment funds, allow investors to partially own pieces of art. MasterWorks, for example, is a fund manager that acquires blue chip art at auctions on behalf of its investors. It creates a holding company for each piece of art, to acquire the art, store it, promote it, and resell it for profit. It registers that company with the SEC and issues shares to those who want to invest in that specific piece of art. Securitizing artwork in this way makes investing in art more affordable and the market for the artworks' shares more liquid. Investors can buy and sell shares much more easily than buying and selling the pieces of artwork themselves.

@@davidslim8718 I've seen this before or heard of it. I'm quite interested, though no funds lately, currently replanning. I went from getting my CDL and an LLC, back to getting into Carpentery and just starting a business there. I'm only 20 but I can't be on the roads that long although young my bodies pretty jacked up.

PS you won’t find “good drivers” Experienced drivers with good records go to companies that have insurance, stock options, matched retirement. Small companies will get rejects, crackheads with poor driving records.

Not true. While good drivers will tend to go to companies with better pay and benefits, as a small company you’ll have to heavily utilize owner ops OR you pay higher per-mile pay ($0.67-$0.70/mile) and build systems to increase fuel efficiency, safe driving, and less turnover leading to more lifetime profit from drivers in comparison to the larger companies. Also, by paying “more”, you can grow from 1 to 15-20 trucks pretty quickly and then you can contract loads with shippers and start easing off the higher salary you’re paying in return for more benefits. We’ve been able to find great drivers following this method and have only ever had to fire 3 drivers over the last decade.

Good luck trying to find a good dispatcher for $35,000 per year. Completely unrealistic. you might find a 22 year old gum chewing female clerk gen z air head, but not a hard nosed experienced dispatcher with Attila the Hun negotiating abilities to deal with the broker scum all day and drivers issues whom you can never make happy no matter what you do. This is a tough business with high risk and low return on investment. Argue with me ... I dare you!

These are slavery numbers. A semi truck with the right dispatcher should be grossing closer to $500k per year not $250k per year. Only local drivers are taking home $5k gross per week. That’s nothing. Not a well researched video at all.
