We just had our new chest freezer delivered this morning, after the one we were given for free 6 years ago died. Praise God we were able to get one so quickly since there have been supply and demand issues for deep freezers. My "city condo homestead" goal for this summer is to learn to pressure can. I want to pressure can vegetable soup to preserve more of what we grow on our patio and what we get from our CSA throughout the summer months while not relying on freezers to keep the produce fresh all winter. I'm also planning to add to what I have been water bath canning to include peaches, apple & pear sauce, apple & pear butter, pickles, and (new this year) salsa, spaghetti sauce, and jam. I also want to learn how and practice fermenting a larger variety of produce. It is great to be able to layer on new skills while praying for God to provide a larger home and maybe even some land in His timing.

That is so exciting you got your new chest freezer today!! Yes, we understand being content with what we have while stewarding this time to prepare us for our dreams! Nothing wasted! And so cool all that you really are able to do right where you are, that is inspiring! God bless you Colleen. I always appreciate your comments!

You shared some great info! Many years ago I used to be a part of a gleaners organization and was heavily involved in canning. At some point I stopped and eventually sold all my supplies. After starting our first garden in 2020, I realized quickly that although the garden produced plenty for fresh eating and a little for the freezer, it was my intention to produce more and to do it with the idea of canning again. I did some canning last year and because I was starting with nothing I’ve managed to stock my supplies most of which has been purchased through OfferUp, thrift stores and yard sales. I’ve purchased some new jars when I could find them and of course I always buy new lids (except for dehydrated goods storage I’ll reuse lids). It’s been slow and steady but I’m feeling set and it’s been done on a budget. Folks looking to start won’t likely find ‘everything’ they need in one search but be determined to keep at it. Kelli is right, it can be done on a budget. Make a list, and start marking off the stuff you’re able to find. We’re in the process of converting a space in our home into an expanded pantry/bulk food storage/prepper pantry. Be encouraged, it’s a great way to support the needs of your family! Great video!

This is so encouraging, so amazing how many things you found for canning second hand. It really is such a blessing and doesn't have to cost and arm and a leg! Thanks for sharing Cheryl!

It’s also worth having a contingency plan if the freezer breaks down or there is a long term power outage. My freezer recently broke down and unfortunately I didn’t realise until the food had almost defrosted. Fortunately I’d bought a new fridge a few months before and hadn’t disposed of the old fridge. I was able to cook the meat etc and refreeze the cooked dishes. There were some losses but not as bad as it could have been. 🙂🌸

My MIL asked what we wanted for Christmas last year and we said canning supplies! Everyone laughed. But she gave us w a waterbath canner and lots of jars and things to help can. It was such an amazing gift that’s blessing us!

I whole heartedly believe we need to go back to basics. Look into turning your chickpeas into flour. My one regret is that I waited until I was in my late 40s to start on this journey. My children range from 15-22yrs but I am teaching them to plan ahead, be prepared and basic know how. Great video. Trying electric pressure canner and grain mill this year.

Do you have chickens? Those seeds you were mentioning that you don’t really eat are perfect for chicken feed and therefore building your freezer more 😜 just an idea. Just found your channel and now I’m a new new sub!

A great video like always. I've always found buying in bulk interesting. It's not common here in England but I've founded some places that sell bulk organic goods online although I haven't tried them out yet. There are two good reasons to keep a bulk pantry: if you or a partner loses your/their job or if a loved one dies. My mother died a month ago and now my sister and I are short on money so having a bulk pantry would've helped us, we live on our own and I'm 23 and she's 21. I know better now and when our finances are in order I can start slowly building our own pantry and eating healthier. If it wasn't for you & Scott I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

Emma Louise, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. That is heartbreaking. So thankful you and your sister have each other. I know you have been so intentional with finding places in England, I remember one of your first comments about trying to find bulk food stores near you. I'm praying for God to encouraged and bless you and your sister. Thank you for your always encouraging comments

Thank you for your video. I am listening to the Holy Spirit in regards to the food crisis that is coming. It’s like God is encouraging his people to be ready. Just remember that no matter what, he is fully in charge. This includes if the bees are producing and if the cows are or are not okay. God has me getting a big garden prepared for next year. Go deep with your faith. Believe what God says; that he provides for his kids. Oh, one more suggestion, get some cast iron cookware, so you can use it over a fire. You guys are awesome. A good Godly young couple.

Thank you for sharing your story. Can you share your tomato soup recipe? My husband loves the campbells tomato soup but I'd rather make some from our garden tomatoes if possible. I will be getting a grain mill soon as an early birthday present from hubby. I enjoy watching your channel and your encouragement to follow our grandparents tradition. God bless you both!!
