SUGGESTION: Since you're in FL and the soil is sandy, you may want to put a strong stepping stone under each leg in your container garden, so your grow tables don't sink into the sand and be sitting in wet sand on rainy days. This will also help keep the table level when only one side otherwise would decide to sink.

Hollis, on most of your other tables you left about a 1 inch gap between each board to allow for drainage. On this one you did not. I know these deck boards will shrink a little bit but not that much. Is there a reason you did not think you would need to do that on this table? Nice job!

45 gallon bucket? That gives a whole new meaning to the term, "Spud Tub" Question, every outdoor project I have been on, it was the practice to install any boards, laying flat, "Crown Up". Is that not necessary, for water repelling. I ask because I never saw you check them. Not being critical, just one woodworker to another curiosity. Thanks for sharing as always, and be safe. Hollis, can I plant my sweet potatoes in pots that I used to grow potatoes without completely using new soil?
@lisakukla459
@lisakukla459 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you absolutely can reuse your potting mix. Hollis has a video on how to refresh it. Basically you just want to add more compost/fertilizer, and if you think the texture isn't what it used to be, add more of whatever you think is lacking, whether peat moss or perlite. FYI, you can save a fortune by mixing your own potting mix, instead of buying the expensive pre-made bagged stuff. There's lots of videos on it, but essentially it's one part peat or coconut coir, one part compost, and half a part perlite. You can add other stuff, like composted wood chips or leaves, sand, worm castings, vermiculite, gypsum, lime, the options are endless, but it's all just based on what that particular plant needs. A general purpose mix, though, is essentially the recipe above, and they bulk it up with "forestry product" aka composted wood chips or pine bark. You really don't need to worry about that. I've reused my potting mix for 4 seasons now, and with a little addition of compost or manure each year, and a handful of granular fertilizer if I have any on hand, it still produces a beautiful harvest of all kinds of stuff. I hope this helps. Good luck to you this season!

Hi there! I love watching your videos, all the way from Australia! Im new to gardening and am finding container gardening suits my space so well. Just a question, i havent seen you add any additional fertilizers during your progress videos. Do you not add any and just the soil preperation is enough? If you do use it what do you use. Thanks a million keep the videos coming :)
